Palena Gardens Hotel — Hotel in Western Region

I really want to give this hotel 5 stars — because it really is fantastic … the staff are crazy lovely (the lady of the house is especially kind and generous) and continually went out of their way to make sure everything was okay for us, including remaking the entire bed when we arrived so it had an extra sheet (not necessary, but awww! — also, it took them 45 minutes to remake the bed, then they took the room key (not a huge deal, but we had to go hunting to get it back again)).||In addition, the wifi was very good, there’s a fridge in the HUGE room, it was superbly clean (it looked as though there were new tiles in the bedroom and the bathroom — everything was sparkling clean!), the bathroom had a rain shower with hot water, we were given brand new towels, the bed had a super hard mattress (which I loved, though do appreciate others may not), and it was the first time in the country we noticed adherence to COVID health regulations: about 3/4 of the staff were masked at all times and social distancing was followed. Breakfast was basic (coffee, a tiny omelette, toast, a few pieces of watermelon), but the food was fresh and the dining staff were delightful.||Why they lose a star? Staff were knocking on our room door AT LEAST five different times during our stay to “make sure everything was okay” … which was sweet and all BUT this included knocks at 10pm when we’d already gone to bed and then again at 6am and 6.30am the following morning when the sun had only just risen. We didn’t answer at any of these times and they knocked AGAIN at 6.45am — and wouldn’t stop knocking until I opened the door (something about which I’m very wary as a female traveller). Apparently staff simply wanted to know what we wanted for breakfast, as they were preparing it in advance … I told the man we were still sleeping, but he insisted he needed to know … and I questioned why wasn’t this asked during check-in? The lady of the house checked in with us at breakfast and apologized profusely for the man who knocked on our door — she said she’d speak with him to make sure this never happened to guests again.||Despite this final comment, our stay was lovely and we would definitely consider staying...

The best hotel I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. Gorgeous building, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in. High quality rooms (there was even a tv, a fridge and a heater in the shower), and high quality service.
