did not have high expectations as the service in Africa and Asia is always much better then in Europe and thus we were really pleasantly surprised. Eagles Villas is great, great choice. The drive from the airport in max 2hrs. We did not use hotel shuttle as we wanted to be alone, but shuttle works fine as well. Originally we asked for it, communication with reception was quick, fast with an almost immediate confirmation. There were not any issues.
Once you are in the resort, you are dropped outside Eagles Palace resort lobby. There are diwans outside where you can relax. We told bellboys that we are going to Eagles Villas and they arranged e-buggy to take us to Eagles Villas reception. It is 5 mins short walk uphill or a short 30 seconds ride.
Check in was very quick, everything was explained and off we went to villa 511. The villa itself is wonderful. Spotless clean, heavenly white, small outdoor pool, kids slept in living room on two extra beds. Perfect thing is that a family of 4 can sleep together. We had a small garden and view of Athos mountain and from some parts also ocean view. There is small verandah with table. Wifi was a bit weak outside but worked pretty well inside. Great outdoor shower, small pool and garden.
The beach is 5 min walk downhill. The area is huge. We used the "quiet zone" and there were always sunbeds available. The sea is crystal clear and water refreshingly cool. Entry to water is sandy with some stones but wet shoes are not necessary.
As far as meals are concerned we were on Bon Vivant programme, kind of all inclusive. As we stayed in villa we went for breakfast to Lofos restaurant. Nice, tasty breakfast either buffet or you can order meals like egg benedict etc.
We spent the day on the beach. Just ring the bell on beach parasol you are using and waiter will come and collect your order. You have to wait sometimes but it is not a big issue. You choose through QR menu and it is part of Bon Vivant programme.
As far as dinners are concerned we dined in Lofos, Eleonas and Armyra restaurant. If you are on Bon Vivant you can always choose one appetiser, main meal, desert and drinks included in the package. All dishes were tasty and we liked dinner in all of them. If Im to choose then the beach restaurant Armyra is the best. The atmosphere, gentle breeze, sea..simply good life :) Lofos is liked among families and sometimes it is very noisy and messsy outside....kids. They serve buffet dinner several days a week or a la carte.
We went for a day trip to Drenia island. The sunbeds are there and that is it. If you are lucky enough then very few people will visit the island and you will have the island for yourselves. However during the main season there are many small boats coming to island and kid of spoiling the atmosphere. Sunbeds are hotel property but beach is public so anyone can pitch a towel right next to you. Sea is wonderful, the beach is pure sand. Overall it was nice experience and Drenia trip is a must. The other day we rented a boat with captain from the hotel ( 1100 euro max 7 pax for 4hrs) and we did a long trip to the end of Athos penninsula with view of many monasteries on the sacred piece of land. Remember you must keep the distance 500 metres from the coast and women are strictly forbidden on penninsula. Actually for more than 1000 years no female entered this area. It is a fairy tale cruise. On the way back we stopped for swimming on several secluded beach in turquoise waters. Wonderful trip.
We will come back again and live the magic of this place. Every evening we had a view of Mt. Athos. A legendary titan Athos is buried underneath and imagine a 10 years old who just watched Titan netflix...
Read moreWe have been going to Eagles Resort for 11 years now, and this was our sixth stay at the Villa. It really feels like a home away from home, because we know that we will go there and be able to properly relax. We do visit other resorts, but there is something about Eagles Villas, that always makes us think that other resorts are not as good, so we always go back to it.||||The staff are very professional, friendly and smiling, without however being overimposing or fake. You really get the sense that the staff feel happy working at the resort, which for my family at least is important. Often what might ruin an experience at a resort is if we sense staff are mistreated even though they are trying to be professional. The customers at the resort generally also tend to be people who are respectful of other guests and staff, which creates a lovely atmosphere. ||||The resort is overall beautiful, very well tended to and clean, beautifully laid out with wonderful views from wherever you turn. In the evening at the villas it is lovely and quiet, very peaceful. ||||The beach is long and the sun loungers well spaced out. There are numerous activities to do at the hotel. We love the sea so we focused on swimming, diving from the pontoon (such fun!) and doing waterspouts and scuba diving. The Athos scuba diving team are exceptional, highly professional and encouraging and we very much enjoyed taking part. It is important to note that water sports and scuba diving or snorkelling are extra and you need to pay cash or card. ||||As for the food there are many options. We loved Armyra and Eagles Club for mediterranean lunches and our favourites for dinner were Lofos and Kamares. We also really liked the food and service at Vinum. As for Armyra, even though it was lovely, a few staff members were not as professional as in the other restaurants, did not have the same amount of courtesy or were not so much 'on the ball'...maybe not as well trained... Armyra felt a bit like an overpriced taverna, rather than a restaurant at a luxury resort, but maybe that is the aim... ||||We were on the Bon Vivant package, which is like an all inclusive with a few exceptions. It is worth it if you are a family with children because there is endless juice/ water and ice-creams included. Also if you like drinking alcohol and cocktails, want endless ice-creams and can have a three course meal at lunch at dinner, it is worth it. We found we were not making full use of it because we could not eat as much, and we do not drink much.||||One thing the hotel could do better, is to try and maybe engage guests in recycling, like have separate bins for things in all locations and in the rooms? I do not know if that would be possible, but it is such a shame that so much waste is going to a landfill.||||There are also numerous areas exploring near Eagles Villas, like a boat tour of the Mount Athos Monasteries and taking the passenger ferry across to the island of Ammouliani, which has some exceptional beaches. ||||We look forward to going to Eagles Villas again and we have been recommending it to...
Read moreJust returned from a 1 week stay at this resort. I do not normally write reviews about hotels, but I will make an exception for Eagle's Villas as it is itself exceptional!
LOCATION Although the hotel is quite far from Thessaloniki airport (90-100 minutes transfer time), the drive is very scenic and passes through areas of spectacular beauty with great views so we did not mind this transfer time at all. The resort itself is located on the coast and from the Villas, at the top of the resort, you have breath-taking views across the sea.
ROOM We had a 2 bedroom villa which was beautifully presented and well equipped. We had a small swimming pool and a wonderful view out across the resort and of the sea. The outdoor area of our room was very cleverly designed, with an outdoor shower that one can use in complete privacy. Even the indoor shower has a view of the sea and it was spectacular!
FOOD & DRINK We stayed on the half board package. It is quite unique to find a hotel that offers a buffet (both at breakfast and dinner) in which the ingredients are of a very high quality and the food is very well thought about. I cannot imagine how much work must be involved in laying out the dinners each evening. We have 3 children and they enjoyed all of our meals at the hotel – nothing was too much work for the chefs and they were more than happy to prepare special dishes such as pasta if our children wanted. We did not have a single bad meal in the hotel.
ACTIVITIES The infinity pool in the villas area of the resort was a real highlight and probably one of the most spectacular swimming pools I have seen in terms of the view. Spending time in the swimming pool in the scorching sun, looking out at the view across the sea, felt like a real privilege and was enormous fun. Our children also enjoyed use of the teen zone, the indoor cold swimming pool and Jacuzzi as well as the outdoor table tennis table. We played tennis twice although this does need to be done at the extremes of day to avoid the heat. There is also a padel tennis court right at the very top of the resort which again has incredible views of the surrounding landscapes.
STAFF I cannot state how friendly the staff were and how much they were prepared to go over and above if needed to satisfy the guests. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and very helpful. It feels almost unfair to list names given that I cannot recall everyone that helped us, but Cristina and Nikos at the Eagles Villas reception, Lofos head chef Dimitris, Lofos restaurant manager Emmanouil, Cabin Bar bartender Aristotelis, and staff members Manolis and Petros were extremely kind and helpful, as were Odysseas and Antonis (who gave us endless journeys up and down the hill in the resort with their buggy!). A special shout out also to the skipper of our boat, Ioannis, who took us out for a truly unforgettable sunset cruise during our stay and was a lovely man that made the evening were enjoyable.
In summary, this is a truly outstanding hotel and I congratulate the team managing this hotel as well as the staff for such a...
