If you find yourself in Chios -- and you absolutely should find yourself in Chios, which is a stunning, isolated island that puts the other tourist trap islands to shame -- you can do no better than this beautiful and secluded dream of a place in the tiny village of Kalamoti. Inside a lovingly-restored horse stable (!) is an airy, quiet, and impeccably-furnished apartment, designed with an architect's eye for detail. (Said architect is also a charming and warm host.) Among other amenities, there is a modern and compact kitchen perfect for fixing lazy breakfasts, a sweet courtyard out back perfect for eating those breakfasts, and a very refreshing shower stocked with Korres' very Greek toiletries.

Lots to do on Chios for the independent and adventurous traveler -- also, for those just seeking a beach. The house is right next to a lovely town square with a few good tavernas, great for a beer or a meal, and one nicer restaurant, as well. We biked down a few kilometers to the beach at Komi, but also loved the beautiful black stone beach at Emporio. (There are a few connected beaches, and the further you go away from the main entrance, the quieter it gets.) There are gorgeous old Greek houses in Pyrgi -- and you can do a gorgeous walk through the old village in Kalamoti itself. Mostly, come to Chios for some unparalleled quiet and beauty, and stay in this...

This is a beautiful well maintained property. It has been renovated with respect to the local architecture. It is close to great tavernas...a short drive to two beautiful beaches. Akşamüstü giriş yaptığımızda, ilk gün kahvaltı için ihtiyaç duyacağımız pekçok şeyi meyva dahil buzdolabında bulduk. Bahçelerinden topladıkları domates ve kendi yaptıkları enfes marmelada kadar. Evsahibimiz Kalliopi, oturma odasına da kızımız için kitaplar ve oyuncaklar bırakmayı düşünecek kadar olağanüstü biri. Kantounia, ev sahipleri mimar olduğu için çok özenle yapılmış harika bir taş ev. Köy meydanına birkaç dakika yürüme mesafesinde olmasına rağmen geceleri oldukça sessizdi. Bulunduğu köy, Kalamoti, Sakız’daki en güzel plajlara, şehirlere çok yakın. Komi plajı ve meşhur volkanik plaj sadece 3-4 km mesafede. Hemen her yaz tatil için ailece Yunanistan’a gideriz, Kantounia, şimdiye kadar kaldıklarımız içinde, evimiz gibi hissettiğimiz tek yer oldu.
