Turn up, drop your bags and let the family look after you. ||Home, from home in a hotel that cares about their guests in all sorts of small and unexpected ways. Gentle efficient service, always friendly and relaxed. ||It’s a spotless 3* with fresh room furniture, slightly let down by the showers. That aside, with private balconies and views over the sea; you can’t go wrong.||The pool a perfect place for a post Yoga sunbathe/bliss-out. The hotel very well setup to support the Egg studio’s retreat programme - a five minute walk down the road. Grab one of Dimitris’ evening cocktails, relax and watch the sun melt into the sea.||Get Effie at reception to get you a scooter/moped and spread your wings, there are near-private beaches and lovely tavernas to explore - as well as the incredible panegyric-saints-day parties that pop-up in mountain villages. Don’t worry no one drives much faster than 30km/hr - the island vibe doesn’t seem to allow it.||Great for families, yoga groups, and also for couples looking for a well placed comfortably relaxing hotel to base exploration of the northern side of this incredible island.||Notes: taxi was 60Euro and over an hours drive from the airport. This is a beautiful hotel. The staff are atentive and polite. The rooms are basic but they are scrupuoulsy clean, with regular changes of sheets and towels. They have a generous balconey with wonderful sea views (if you have a sea view room), they are quiet with really efficient air con. The wifi is not good BUT, why go to a Blue Zone island as beautiful as this and sit on your lap top reading emails and FB. Leave that all at home, and relax, the food is beautiful, the Island is beautiful with lovely beaches nearby, a scramble down the rocks opposite rewards one with some wonderful swiming in limpid pools. If you can, get up to the hill top towns where you will see some wonderful views, and great local food and try and catch one of the marvelous festivals which go on all night, dance with the locals and experience their warmth and kindness. Ikaria is a stunning Island on a different groove, if you want internet, night life discos and 24/7 partying then this is NOT the place for you. But if you are looking for a peaceful, beautiful warm, authentic experience of Greece then Ikaria is ideal. If I come back I would definitely book...

Karras Star Hotel in Ikaria is an absolute hidden gem. Our group of 14, mostly from New York, traveled here for a yoga and fitness retreat led by Fire Studios (based in Harlem), and we were completely blown away. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The property itself is stunning, the pool is crisp, clean, and surprisingly deep, perfect for cooling off after a morning session. The views are nothing short of breathtaking, with the sea breeze creating a calming, almost therapeutic atmosphere that felt amazing for our lungs. Every morning started with a generous and delicious breakfast spread, the kind that sets the tone for a great day.
