Irene Studios — Hotel in Istiaia-Aidipsos Municipality

Met z’n drieën verbleven we in de periode mei 2015 twee weken in Irene Studios in Pefki.||Het bleek een meer dan uitstekende uitvalsbasis voor de verkenning van Noord-Evia. ||Irene Studios wordt professioneel gerund door de familie Aslanis: vader en moeder Irene en hun twee zoons. Ze hebben hun studios en hotelgedeelte modern ingericht, met als middelpunt een heerlijk zwembad en restauratie waaraan het perfect toeven is. Doordat Irene Studios op een heuvel ligt, is het uitzicht over de omgeving ruim. Het gehele complex wordt goed onderhouden, straalt comfort uit en de familie Asiani staat garant voor een vriendelijke en Engelstalige service op maat. Dat de zoons de Vakantiebeurs in Utrecht hadden bezocht zegt genoeg over hun aanpak om met name toeristen uit Nederland te interesseren voor Noord-Evia. Irene Studios biedt mogelijkheden voor een uitstekend verzorgd ontbijt en diner.||Noord-Evia is een verrassende bestemming gebleken, met interessante plaatsjes en vooral een prachtige natuur. Kuuroord Edipsos en de omliggende baai (met als uiterst westelijke punt Kavos en het mooie Agios Georgios) vormt een Griekse Rivièra, terwijl het aanliggende berglandschap groen en fris is als in de Alpen. Tips: de vissersplaatsjes Lymni en Orei, Agios Nikolaos Beach, Agios Anna Beach, de watervallen van Drymonas en een bezoek aan Vrinioti-wijnen in Gialtra, Edipsos, alwaar we konden genieten van een privérondleiding inclusief proeverij van voortreffelijke wijnen. ||||Noord-Evia per mountainbike||We hebben Noord-Evia verkend per mountainbike. De omgeving biedt hiervoor prima mogelijkheden, die echter nog niet zo bekend zijn (andere fietsers zijn we gedurende onze tochten niet of nauwelijks tegengekomen) maar Irene Studios wil het mountainbiketoerisme actiever gaan promoten. We zeggen het hierbij dus voort!||De directe omgeving van Pefki en Istiea is een redelijk vlak landschap, maar het wordt landinwaarts heuvel- en bergachtig. Om veel per fiets te zien moet je dus getraind zijn. ||De wegen zijn redelijk goed, de stijgingspercentages geleidelijk en het verkeer gedraagt zich in het algemeen netjes en aangepast ten overstaan van fietsers. Langs de doorgaande wegen zijn er redelijk veel bronnen waar je (het noodzakelijke) water kunt tappen.||Off-the-road kun je zeker volop vooruit, maar er zijn geen officiële routes en de bewegwijzering is karig. Zelfs met kaartmateriaal en Google Maps is oriëntatie lastig gebleken, zodat het tricky kan zijn om de off-road paadjes op te zoeken.||Autoverhuurder Car-N-Motion, met meerdere vestigingen op Evia, verhuurt redelijk goede mountainbikes inclusief helm, en is (dankzij ons kunnen we zeggen) inmiddels ook bedreven met het transport van mountainbikes vanaf de luchthaven Athene naar Pefki. These are very pleasant apartments with good air conditioning a lovely pool, excellent restaurant and great staff.
