We spent 2 nights at the Mantania Tower in September and were most impressed. It is built as a (medieval almost in its detailed features) castle, with great attention to detail, authenticity and all comforts and incorporating lots of eccentric but tasteful fittings (has even a drawbridge and was all created from scratch!).||The owner/manager (George) could not have been more helpful (on our way there, we were well and truly stuck on a muddy track, about 25 miles before the hotel. Road assistance was unlikely to arrive for several hours and we phoned the hotel for help. George made several calls, called us back to re-assure us and within 20 minutes a local farmer came to tow us out!!! He was even refusing to take any money let alone ask for any). Thank you very much George.||We then had excellent accommodation: most beautifully fitted and individually decorated room, masses of space, armchairs, comfortable beds and crisp, clean linen.||And then, great food (the goat soup, Trikalla grilled sausages and goat dish were to die for), and if we did not finish our bottle of wine they reserved it for the next meal! Omelette, smoked and other local cheese and cold meats at breakfast added to our culinary satisfaction. We could also buy various locals delicacies in their shop and were shown around a very well constructed and organised cellar (several wines with their own label too).||Everything was delivered with easy, relaxed, friendly service in surroundings of great ambience and a most beautiful countryside location, perfect for starting on to various outdoor activities and countryside visits. Almost luxury at rather average prices; we were surprised that they had only a 3-star official rating.||We were impressed...
Read moreWe only spent one night in Mantania Tower, and we wished we had time to stay longer. This hotel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and the route is really scenic, one of the most unique landscapes I have seen in Greece. ||||At the time we were there there were very few other people, we were told it gets very full in the summer. ||||Breakfast was very nice (although I would have loved to have a traditional pie as well), and dinner was good as well (though there was limited selection, which was expected due to the lack of customers) - also, dinner was good value (I had expected it to be quite expensive due to the fact that there are no other places to eat around the hotel). There is also a wine cellar downstairs, that somehow reminded us of a dungeon!||||Most rooms are different from each other - we particularly liked the ones with mosquito nets / curtains around the beds, they are very atmospheric!||||The owner was very helpful. Apart from managing the hotel, he organises cooking classes, traditional meals etc.||||I would have loved to have some wood for the fireplace (we didn't ask for it so I don't know if it was available)! Also, Wi-Fi didn't work in our room, but it worked in the common areas. ||||All in all I liked this place and I would stay there again if I travel to...
Read moreWe have booked this hotel during December for 3 nights, aiming to visit Meteora. But unfortunately the roads were closed because of the snow and we had to drive 2h30 min to reach the Meteora monasteries. However with the help of Fotenie and her employees we were able to enjoy our first day even though we were trapped inside of the hotel because of the snowstorm.|Our room was pretty nice, with a mezzanine and 2 king beds, very clean, comfortable and warm.|Breakfast was also good, you can always find something nice to eat.|However, the restaurant provides only breakfast and some pizza. The best is to bring some food since the restaurants of Elati are very far away 1h30 min drive. Or you can go to the only tavernas 1km away.|Roads were easy to drive but better to reach the hotel before night time during winter ❄️ |Thank you to Fotenie who made our...
