We've been to Mpafi many times in the past. Great place for hiking with an excellent view of Attica. Every time we've been there stayed for lunch at the Mpafi restaurant. Because of Corona-virus , for the last 2 years we avoid been there. So we went there yesterday. It was about 15:30, not very crowded, and we had the worst ever before food! We ordered bean-soup (fasolada) that had a KNORR-type flavor thing, which was covering everything and no olive oil ! Spaghetti Carbonara was cold. Pork steak with potatoes and rice that came with no rice almost frozen potatoes and a strange piece of meat that had nothing to do with steak! The olives were tasty and a sausage that was also cold! Only the tea and hot-chocolate (still) were nice but not the "kormos" (chocolate with butter and biscuits ) that you need a hummer to cut. |I feel bad for that experience and I promise to my family that we'll never go again for lunch. |You guys (owners) please do something to get closer to the good old-time...
Read moreit receives 5 stars for what it represents! Dont think you'll be getting five star hotel accomodations but its a decent and admirable effort. First let me comment on accomodation. The rooms are clean, tidy and cozy and quite warm and they provide a pillow and a blanket. There are some pipes protruding over your head and you have to watch out not to bang your head. Also since the walls are wooden you dont get much of sound insulation either.
The restaurant considering that its self service, its quite pricey but food tastes good and is of good quality. The fireplace is always lit. The exterior view is nice.
The staff is polite and eager to help! All in all its a very positive experience.
One amazing service aiming at children is that there's a playroom where the children are being supervised by 2 girls, leaving you with the so much needed peace and quiet to gaze at...

My friend & I arrived in our mountain bikes, wet and tired on a very cold day, and all the tables next to the fireplace were taken (only 3 tables & taken by people who came with their cars!!). We sat on the second level where the heating was not working. Although the service, the selection and generally the whole establishment was good, I believe that this "Refuge"/"Καταφύγιο" doesn't live up to it's name any more. All in all, we never managed to get warm before our decent with our bikes and nobody cared to help us find a spot to suit our needs (I mean, shouldn't this Refuge be for people who really need... well.....
