If you want an authentic (best of) Greece experience, this is it! Beginning with the narrow, winding mountain road to get to this incredibly beautiful remote mountain location with its sweeping view of the Gulf of Corinth and mountainsides dotted with groves of fruit and olive trees, grape arbors, and scattered housing. ||||Demos could not be a more accommodating host, anxious to make sure every need is met and question answered. He speaks very good English and can make recommendations to guide you to exactly the types of experiences you want to have or sites you want to see, as well as intelligently discuss all aspects of modern Greek culture and life. One example of his detailed guidance is a morning when we asked if there were a cafe we could go to, and he said there is a "very Greek" cafe just a two-minute walk away. He made sure to add that the cafe is "Very Greek" and if we wanted to go to the bathroom, we should come back to Gero-fotis. ||||The food was incredible all home-cooked and baked by mother and mother in law. It is served outdoors overlooking the dramatic vistas. Even though we had lost communication with him (our fault) and he didn't really know when to expect us, the first night we had several choices for dinner and were served a (real) Greek salad, pastry with vegetables in it, keftides (Greek meatballs), souvlaki, and grilled chicken breast. Demos encouraged us to make any special food requests for preparation later in our stay which we, unfortunately, did not plan well enough to take advantage of. ||||The room, bathrooms, and entire grounds are well maintained, lovely, and very clean and comfortable. Bear in mind that this is a charming Greek home and not an American hotel. ||||It is VERY easy to rent a car at the Athens airport, find your way out of the airport, onto the highway and into the Aeghion area. Finding the guesthouse is definitely an adventure. We had to backtrack a couple times and ask directions from people who were very willing but did not speak much English. We offered to write new directions for Demos but he was adamant that his measurements were exactly accurate. And, we found, that was true. We did NOT initially pay close attention to mileage on our dash. If we had carefully followed his kilometers for turns and what to look for, we would have been fine. ||||I would LOVE to stay there...
Read moreStaying at the Gerofotis Guesthouse was a delight! We loved the drive up through the Greek hills to get to the beautiful guesthouse overlooking the sea and the most amazing view we saw in Greece. The sun rises and sunsets were stunning, and worth planning your day to be back to see them. We loved our room! The balcony was amazing and the room was uniquely decorated. Dimitris was a wonderful host, serving a delicious breakfast at a very inexpensive rate, and giving great suggestions for the area. Renting a car is a must, and if you type in the destination in a GPS (rent with a car- or use a phone), we drove right there- no problem! Dimitris has his own authentic Greek restaurant on the back patio, where other guests and locals come to enjoy the food and fellowship. We loved the atmosphere, and highly recommend this place. It is worth planning your trip with this a stopping point. We were here two nights (coming from Athens) and drove back to Corinth (1 1/2 hours) to sight see there. It was a perfect distance to travel for a sightseeing day and very easy to get around. Even after our 5 week trip through Europe, this place was a highlight from our whole trip. We would go back in a...
Read moreI’ve not written a review on trip advisor for a long time but I feel so compelled to write this because we are so disappointed by our stay here. The pictures on booking.com do not reflect reality. We were “welcomed” with hostility as though our presence was a burden. We were even told off for getting lost on the way, taking the wrong road to arrive, and arriving in the evening (as we had informed them). There was no food in the evening which we were aware of, however the local place to eat was intimidating, and lacked any food! So we had no dinner after driving for 5 hours from the north of central Greece to get here. Where credit is due the views are outstanding, but we decided that after breakfast we would just leave as quick as possible because this place made us so unhappy. This was by far the most hostile, unfriendly, and uncomfortable place we have stayed during our time in Greece. Very quickly we hope to forget we...
