We can see why it’s so highly rated – travellers consistently rave about the great food, spacious rooms, beach proximity, and top-notch drinks, and we absolutely agree.||||Resort & Location||Mitsis Laguna’s grounds and facilities are immaculate. The resort is visually stunning, from a grand lobby with elegant decor to a sprawling Venice-style pool landscape winding through the property. The location is fantastic: it sits right on Anissaras Beach, a pebble beach known for clean waters. The beach felt like part of the resort itself – literally just a few steps from our bungalow (about a 10-meter walk). We loved being able to go from pool to sea in seconds. While the beach is pebbly (typical for Crete), the water was clear and refreshing, and there were plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. We mostly swam in the pools but enjoyed morning strolls along the shore. The resort is a short taxi ride from Hersonissos, so it was easy to explore local shops and cafes off-resort each morning. We took advantage of this and went out most mornings – a nice way to experience a bit of Crete beyond the hotel. (Tip: Ask the concierge for walking routes or taxi arrangements; they gave us great recommendations for nearby shopping and scenic walks.)||||Room & Cleanliness||Our bungalow room was huge, modern, and spotlessly clean. We were immediately impressed by how pristine everything was – from the gleaming marble floors to the crisp linens. Housekeeping services the room daily, keeping it immaculate. The bed was king-size and very comfortable, ensuring we slept well every night. Nice extras in the room included a free mini-bar (replenished daily with water, soft drinks, beer, and even wine), a Nespresso coffee machine, and plush robes and slippers. Overall, the room set a high standard and lived up to the resort’s luxury reputation. Cleanliness across the whole hotel was also outstanding – you’d spot staff constantly cleaning the lobby, restaurants, even the pool area, which gave us a lot of confidence in the hygiene standards.||||Dining & Drinks||One word: amazing! We’re foodies and Mitsis Laguna is a foodie’s heaven. There are so many dining options that every meal felt like a new experience. The main buffet restaurant serves a huge variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner – everything from Greek and Mediterranean specialities to international favourites. On top of that, the resort features six themed à la carte restaurants we visited 3 of them in the time we were there.||Italian Restaurant: Home made bread with the dips I could of eaten this all day! I had Spicy Calzone and my wife had the Saltimbocca di Maiale alla Romana both were incredible.||Pan-Asian Restaurant: The grilled scallops I wanted them to keep bringing me more plates as they were sensational, we ordered 2 Crispy Ducks and Teriyaki Pork and we didn't leave anything! An incredible place.||(Tip: We went out for dinner one night to Med Cafe. Once again had the Dips and Pita all 3 dips you will want more! Our mains was Lamb Gyros and Rib Eye steak with a ton of sides! What a place to eat by the sea )||The cocktails were top-notch expertly made and genuinely delicious. My two favourites were the Mojito and the Amanda, while my wife couldn’t get enough of the Amaretto Sour. There are loads of bars scattered around the resort, so you’re never far from a refreshment. We loved strolling between the All Day Bar, Night Bar, Theatre Pool Bar, and Laguna Pool Bar, each offering a slightly different vibe but consistently great drinks.||||Pools & Beach||We mostly stayed at the large central pool and the adjacent quieter pool. Sunbeds were plentiful (we never had to fight for a lounger, even going out late morning), and towel service was provided. The pools were crystal clear and well-maintained.||Music played softly in the background and the team would come by for aqua aerobics or pool games, but it was low-key and you could join in or just chill. Service at the pool was great too – servers from the pool bar wandered around taking drink orders so we barely had to leave our sunbed for refreshment.||||Entertainment & Activities||Entertainment at Mitsis Laguna was excellent and varied. Every evening there was some form of show or live music, and we honestly enjoyed them more than the typical resort shows. The hotel hosted a big poolside barbecue with Greek music and traditional dancers, creating such a fun atmosphere. For activities, the resort offers a ton if you’re feeling active. We saw daily exercise classes, yoga, aqua gym, beach volleyball and there’s a tennis court, table tennis, darts, etc. milies were enjoying the Kids’ Club and the playground we peeked in and the children looked well entertained with arts and crafts and games. As a couple, we didn’t use those, but as parents we took note for next time with our kids. The resort really caters to families as well as adults, which brings me to:||||Service & Staff||The service here is truly five-star. Every single staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, and went out of their way to make our stay special. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with smiles, a welcome drink, and a quick check-in. Reception & Concierge: The front desk and concierge team were superb – they helped us arrange taxis every morning for our outings, gave spot-on recommendations for places to visit (local villages, the best shops for souvenirs, etc.), and even secured us a last-minute restaurant reservation when we hadn’t booked in advance. They were always available and happy to assist with anything.||Dietary needs? No problem. A huge shout-out to Aristeidis Kyriakidis, the resort’s nutrition expert, who went above and beyond for us. My wife has a nut allergy, and each day Aristeidis personally walked her through the buffet and restaurant menus, pointing out safe options and even arranging special nut-free dishes. This level of care and personal attention blew us away We’ve never seen a resort offer a dedicated nutritionist to assist guests, and it made our dining experience completely stress-free. If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, seek him out – he was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. This kind of service is rare and deserves recognition.||Overall, the staff here have a can-do attitude and genuinely want guests to have the best time.||||Overall Experience & Next Time||To sum it up, this was one of our best holidays ever. Mitsis Laguna delivers on luxury, comfort, and fun in equal measure. Whether you want to relax by a gorgeous pool, indulge in gourmet meals, or enjoy entertainment and activities, this resort has it all. We loved the romantic, pampering experience as a couple, but we also noticed how well they cater to families, a balance not all resorts achieve. In fact, we had such a great time that we’re already planning to book again for October, but this time bringing our two children. We have zero doubts they’ll love it as much as we did (the water slides and the crepes will probably make their year!). It’s rare that we return to the same hotel, but Mitsis has earned our loyalty – we now see the Mitsis brand as our go-to for future holidays, given the quality and experience...
Read moreWriting this while we are still here, I am that bored and fed up here. We have visited a few Greek islands over the past few years, and as of the past couple of years have stayed at some lovely 5* resorts.||Arrived last Tuesday via a private transfer, a 25 minute or so journey from the airport. Taxi driver was friendly, informative and we were on our way to have a lovely 10 nights in crete..||Upon arrival we waited around for several minutes at reception before being spoke to, checked in and wondered where these welcome drinks were (never got them) we were given cool towels shortly after and told the bell boy would take us to our room.||Absolutely no wow factor when we walked in but were happy enough to chill for half an hour and unpack a few bits. As a family of 5, we were rather crammed into this room, with little space to hang clothes or hide away our suitcases (one double wardrobe and two small draws for 5 of us) the 'balcony' was two small chairs overlooking the yoga area in the gardens - we usually enjoy sitting out in an evening before and after an evening out but this was rather pathetic, and did not get used.||Later that evening we also noticed a rather big patch of mould, directly above one of the beds where our little girl was sleeping.. we did fill out a questionnaire to guest relations and mentioned this (we did not moan / complain about this) and the management were extremely quick at getting us to look at another room, I could not fault them one bit for doing this - the new room is much more spacious with two bathrooms, huge balcony and much more storage.. big tick for them here. Couldn't have asked for a nicer room to be put in to be honest. ||The food.. never known anything like it, not really child friendly (no kids section like most other 5* resorts we have been to) and we havnt found anything to our liking in the buffet section for any of us at lunch time or evenings. This is severely poor, it's been the same repetitive crap every day, yet there are supposedly themed nights.. it's the same food!||The snack wagon at the beach is ok, come 12:30 though large queues (45 minutes yesterday).. we've quickly become bored of a chicken gyro, they also have burgers here and a small selection of drinks to choose from.||Ice creams there is a large selection which all look lovely, we've had a couple from here and they don't taste like cheap ice cream. Next to that is a crepe bar which serve fresh crepes with toppings of your choice. ||Fridges in the rooms are also topped up with premium soft drinks, water & beers which is nice to see.. ashame they don't follow up with these at any of the bars, not sure what their coke or sprite has in them but they do not taste nice from any of the bars?||Entertainment - if you like watching old couples dance to a bit of music by the all day bar in evenings you'll be alright, or perhaps joining in with a game of scrabble.. If you have any children you wont be allowed in the champaign & sushi bar - we did ask before entering if we could sit down for a drink, one member of staff said yes of course.. we sat down and were told off and to leave as we had our kids with us, made to feel like a bit of a lemon as we did ask 60 seconds prior to sitting down but there we go.||The sun beds are all comfy and sturdy, but a lot of them are underneath umbrellas which don't fold down, so if you like to sunbath make sure you grab a bed with no umbrella - some of them scattered around do fold down. We have occasionally had drinks brought round to our beds, but again very inconsistent.. possibly lack of staff to do this all day. ||Slow service in general all round.. food, drinks, bit of inconsistancy. Can't say iv found a go-to drink I'll stick to as there not the nicest.. sticking to water most of the time or a frozen strawberry daqiry if your lucky to get one before they run out ||We have enjoyed the brunch, and had a lovely meal at the Italian al la carte restaurant. ||There is a tiny children's stage by the small pool, we ventured down one evening and swiftly walked away, the evening after looked a little better with a bubble show||We've gone upto the sports bar 5 minutes up the road and had amazing food & drinks.. at a reasonable price, will be going there for the rest of our holiday id imagine for dinner (shouldn't have to wheb you've paid x amount for a 5* Ai package)||We have also got taxi's into hersonissos town (15 euro each way) and had a nice meal there. The beach is ok, nice clear water but very rocky. Not much else near by other than the sports bar, local Spar shop. I think town would be around an hours walk.||Honestly never been so disappointed whilst on holiday for what we have paid.. we did encounter a 6.2 magnitude earthquake though which was probably the most exciting day - didn't hear a peep from anyone in the hotel to let us know whether we should evacuate.. Phone alarms telling us to get away from sea locations due to tsunami warnings (we couldn't be any closer to the sea) but thankfully everything has been ok.. assuming they knew this would be the case.||Not sure what could make the rest of our stay more pleasant if I'm honest.. looking forward to just chilling away from home, guess it beats being at work..||Would not recommend for a family 👎 far better resorts out there! A few others we have spoke to have also agreed with us regarding food & entertainment, some little touches of 5* we have experienced at other resorts wouldnt go a miss here. ||After sitting with the management- they have been extremely accommodating and offered us a couple of nice gestures for us to enjoy our stay. They have been much welcoming, but as a whole we wouldnt return. A nice hotel, but we wouldnt rate this as full 5* all...
Read moreHOTEL|The hotel is truly beautiful, very tastefully decorated and well laid-out. So many photo opportunities! Staff are so lovely, probably the best I have come across. Reception are happy to help with any queries.|Good selection of pools, always able to find a lounger somewhere. The whole place is mostly spotless, although the salt-water pool seemed to end up dirty most days. |Handy shops and an arcade, plus a library shelf if you need a book. Different bars to choose from plus the creperie and snack corner means there are plenty of options. Courtesy room available if you have a later departure flight.||RESTAURANTS |We were worried reading reviews prior to our arrival, but we we happy with the eating options. Buffet restaurant had a good selection, could think of a few ommissions but nothing extreme. It was never too busy considering the amount of guests. I would say that the draught soft drinks are undrinkable, other than the cola (which could also be awful at times). Was glad to get fresh orange juice in the mornings.|We had booked the a la carte restaurants beforehand and they were all enjoyable. Service could be a little slow but Greek life is very slow and laid-back so just lean into it!|The Pop-Up Grill was a big hit, highly recommended! Brunch at the Pan Asian a la carte was a nice change too.||ROOM|We had a Family Bungalow with Shared Pool. The room decor is lovely, really in keeping with the identity of the hotel. Beds were comfortable. There was no dressing table, or chest of drawers. Just one mirror (besides bathroom mirror) which is not ideal with myself and a teenager trying to do hair and makeup in the evenings! The second bedroom was just 2 beds and a tv, I therefore used footstools from the main bedroom as nightstands. |The bath was really grubby unfortunately, and the bathroom tiles needed replaced. |Tea/coffee supplies were not replenished, but mini bar was filled every day. |It was good having allocated sunbeds by the shared pool, although we probably wouldn't have paid the extra for this room knowing the resort layout now as it isn't as private as the shared pool rooms we've had elsewhere. It was nice to have bar service come round to the loungers, even if it was quite sporadic and some days not at all.||BEACH|The beach is really pretty and so relaxing, beautiful clear water. Always sunloungers available. We knew it was rocky beforehand, and tended to sit furthest away from the Beach Bar as it had best access into the sea with fewest rocks. You must try the bacon cheeseburger and fries from the Beach Bar, very yummy!||LOCATION |The downside was definitely the location, which wouldn't be an issue if there was adequate public transport, but the bus service to the hotel is very limited, and the main bus stop is some distance away (reception suggested getting a taxi to the bus stop!). Would definitely recommend hiring a car or you will spend a fortune on taxis.||ENTERTAINMENT |Sports and fitness programmes daily. Staff will walk round and let you know when it's time for water polo etc, but they're not pushy to make you take part.|Kids club looked nice, playpark was always quiet, but we didn't use either. ||Mini disco was a very small affair, I think this seems to be standard across Mitsis hotels. I was sad my 8 year old didn't want to take part as it was mostly toddlers. After the mini disco they'd have dancers/trapeze/bubble show etc. We enjoyed these, and the magic show was a favourite.|Entertainment at the main bar tended to be singers and was mostly quite chilled, and always busy. The best nights were Drifters singers who had everyone up singing and dancing, plus of course the pool party on Thursdays. There was a great atmosphere at the pool party, great music, dancers, lights, fireworks, plus candy floss and popcorn and a bonus cocktail bar. One of the highlights of our stay.||One star deducted for room and location issues.|I would point out that any shortcomings were not enough to spoil our holiday so I didn't bother Management with them. However, Guest Relations are great (they may approach you to ask if everything is ok) and I fully believe they will do whatever they can to remedy any issues you may have during your stay at this beautiful...
