Due to my work I must have travelled to thousands hotels throughout the years. This has to be by far the worst hotel I have ever been to. Where can I even begin.... Location: The hotel is supposed to be in Pythagoreon but is actually about 5 kilometers from the town. If you have no vehicle it is impossible to walk 10 kilometers to and back to the hotel just to have a drink in Pythagoreon. The location of the hotel is such that there is absolutely nothing in its vicinity from where you can buy food (super market or convenience store, etc), cafe, fast food, bar etc. Also, it is extremely difficult to even get to the hotel, there is only a small path on a dirt road with rocks and bushes that even my ATV had trouble navigating. In the photos of the advertisements it showed that the property was literally on the beach and only a few feet away from the splash of the ocean. As you can see from the photos the beach is almost a kilometer away from the property. Facilities: In the advertisements it showed a pool table, jacuzzi and a swimming pool. From the photos I have uploaded you can see that none of these were in working order and probably have not been for years. Amenities: The double bed was on its last legs and though we were a couple, they provided us with a sheet for a single bed which was ripped in areas (as shown in the photos I took) since it is probably the same age as Pythagoras himself. The soap was a used bar and 2 little bottles of God knows what in the bathroom. Sanitation/Cleanliness: The wife of the owner of the hotel is in charge of the cleanliness of the entire hotel. When I asked her the third day if they were planning on cleaning the room or changing the sheets she replied jokingly that I was too nitpicky and that they usually do it after each guest leaves! Flabbergasted I asked if we could at least have a double-bed sheet as we were 2 people in the bed and she again joked around it and said that I "could handle" it until she got around to it. The supposed breakfast was made up of a couple of slices cheese, ham and bread. When we asked if there was anything else she replied that she didn't have time to make anything else but she could make an omelet. Without prompting she hurriedly specified that she would not boil eggs as it was too much of an inconvenience. As we sat waiting for our "breakfast" to be made we observed her using an old rag which had turned black from the dirt on it and a small basin of water (also dark) "washing" the surfaces of the dinning area. When her rag fell on the ground she muttered a curse and just picked it up again and started rubbing it on the tables. These were the surfaces people were supposed to eat FOOD on... As you can clearly see from the photos there were spider webs on the bed and in different other areas of the room. There was dirt, grime and dust everywhere. You can also see the dirt and stains on the porcelain in the bathroom and the same on the window. Courtesy and professionalism: Not only were they rude and unacommodating, but they actually tried to scam us out of more money. Having agreed on the prices by phone before getting to the establishment, they then tried to raise the price by including all sorts of different "new taxes" and "amenities" that they needed to be compensated for. After refusing to pay more than the agreed upon amount, they then said that we should leave even though we had paid half of the amount in advance. This was clearly an attempt at extortion since it was the height of summer and they recognized that it would be next to impossible to secure different lodgings under the circumstances. Nevertheless, we found an amazing opportunity in Hotel Artemis which I will post a different review about.
TLDR: Worst Hotel in the World. If I could give less than one...
Read moreSituated between Vathi and Pythagorion, Oceanida Bay hotel can offer a perfect settlement point. The whole entourage is virgin and brings you a taste of Classical Greece. The hotel has a lovely pool and an exuberant collection of colorful orchids and other flowers, in addition to trees of figs and lemon in the backyard. The place is not expensive; so it is perfect for long accommodation, as well as group visits. As it is a middle level you can ask for the services not included each with a seperate price which is good and gives you more freedom. The staff is cosmopolitan and variant they can serve you in Greek, English, Arabic, French and German. The place is fine in case you only need a safe and nice room to be your starting and returning point. However, there is a billiard salle, chess and tavli. There is a supermarket close by 20 minutes walk. The hotel has an amazing chef; so you can order meals for lunch and dinner. You can also ask the reception to call a taxi for you to Pythagorion for 10-15€ to explore the town, make shopping, visit cafés and restaurants and enjoy night life. The sea and mountain view is really lovely from the hotel. The evening offers a serene sky of bright stars and a super full moon. You could have watched the lunar full eclipse from the hotel clearly. The ambiance around the hotel is very inspiring and calm. There is a tranquil beach less than 1km close by and a white chapel of the Virgin Mary; that is of a different architectural style. There are other organised beaches further. You can walk, take photos, swim, medidate and see the colorful houses. Moreover, while enjoying a walk around you can see beautiful trees of figs, lemon and olive in addition to wheat fields and an amazing collection of flowers and plants. There is also exceptional rocks and stones around that can attract you for a whole day to explore them and capture some photos. Sunset is scenic and promising. There is free Wi-Fi. The good news is that mosquitos are not in abundance at all. You can meet one or two during...
