I was not impressed with the city of Kasteria but I was most disappointed by this hotel. Okay, we visited during the off season but it would have made more sense to close the place if it wasn’t busy (which it wasn’t, since we saw maybe 4 other people during our stay). |This “Palace” is not close to the old city so you need to drive or take a long walk to get to the lakeside area. I guess that is the attraction there since I didn’t see anything else except a ton of fur stores. |Driving up to the hotel shows an impressive marble entrance. There is a ramp to the side, that I only found when I left the next day. The lobby is large and pretty modern. The receptionist was polite and mild mannered. We couldn’t get much information from him about restaurants for dinner but he didn’t seem too enthusiastic about any. Thinking there was a big lake, we hoped there would be a fish restaurant but the only one he mentioned was outside of Kasteria and we didn’t want to drive anywhere. |We went to our room, which looked impressive, modern and clean enough. Toiletries were basic and there was a large marble bathroom with shower. There was a TV, safe and desk to do a little business. |When we returned from dinner, we found the room was hot. After trying unsuccessfully to start the A/C, my husband called the desk. Seems there was no A/C, only heat, and they told us to open a window. We were on the ground floor and didn’t love that idea but the windows opened at the top and we were too tired to complain. The bed was a bit hard, as were the pillows. Didn’t sleep much. |The next morning I tried to take a shower. Again there was a fancy shower head but I couldn’t figure out how to use it (I think there was a broken button) and ended up using the hand sprayer, which caused a flood on the floor. I tried to use the hair dryer but it kept cutting off after a second, so I gave that up.|So now it was time for breakfast - huge dining room and there were only 6 of us. There were enough things offered but only a little of each. Along with other things, I took a piece of feta cheese and it tasted like soap - I still taste it 2 hours later. The bread was fresh enough but that was about it. Even the filter coffee was like water. |This whole experience was disappointing. Don’t know how there were so many glowing reviews except that this hotel functions differently during peak seasons. I wouldn’t go there any time of the year and frankly, sorry Kasteria, but I might just avoid this...
Read moreGood hotel, providing high quality services at a great location, both close to Kastoria city centre but at the same time at a quiet, calming location near the lake. The staff is friendly and helpful, both at the restaurant and the hotel spa. The food at the Atrium restaurant is offered in reasonable prices and variety and it is of fair quality, although nothing special. The breakfast at Esperos Hall offers a lot of choices, but I would prefer it if the pastries, such as the croissants and cakes, were freshly baked and not stored. As for the hotel room itself, it is comfortable and has a nice atmosphere. It was clean, yet not thoroughly (e.g. the floor are below the beds had a lot of dust, same for the drawers). The bathroom requires a bit of work. The shower doors are not properly sealed (and that was noticed in two different rooms - since my previous stay there) and that results in water leakage. Regarding heating, as Kastoria is mainly a winter destination, the hotel rooms are equipped with the standard air conditioning and an electrical wall-mounted heaterl, both of which are controlled by the guest. There is also a nice fireplace in the hotel lobby. The spa facilities are nice and were open for guests during the whole holidays season - definitely a plus. Overall, a very pleasant experience that can be improved in order to provide the "luxury" aura their...
Read moreOur stay at Esperos Palace exceeded our expectations. The rooms are large, comfortable and very clean, the atrium bar and dining room offer amazing food, (everything we ordered was delicious), and the breakfast buffet is huge! The location just outside the city center is peaceful and relaxing with grocery shopping, a restaurant, coffee stand, ATM, and other conveniences right down the street. Getting to the downtown waterfront and the historic sites and other attractions is easy by car, taxi, bus, or even walking. The staff’s authentic Greek hospitality is wonderful, and they aim to please. Kastoria is a magical, charming place with so much to see and do, and Esperos Palace helped make our visit perfect. We will...
