We have stayed in five star hotels across the world the past 40 years, so have quite a good idea of what to expect. Without a doubt, the gorgeous sparkling infinity pool and views across to Turkey in the distance are world-class spectacular. Every member of staff were brilliant, and we could not find fault with them. Thank you!||Twenty years ago the hotel was probably worth five stars, but no longer by modern global standards. ||The front of the hotel had lovely clean marble floors, but otherwise the outside entrance was under-whelming, with a row of semi-dead trees right outside reception. Most 5 star hotels greet you with stunning fountains and/or lush gardens. Usually someone meets your coach, but here the driver pointed us the way to reception. ||Check-in was quick and efficient, with a buggy and super lovely chap to drive you to your room. Other hotels offer a glass of bubbly on arrival, or at least a bottle of wine in your room. There was a bowl of fruit in the room on a dinner plate wrapped in plastic. Most five star hotels greet you with fruit, flowers, plus interesting canapes, chocolates, and a hand-written welcome note from the manager. In recent times we have been met with an individualised welcome message on the TV monitor, which also gives you access to the hotels app. We have also been met with exotic towel art and sprinkled rose petals. Hotels that know you are vegan usually have a carton of dairy free milk in the fridge. The welcome was adequate but not great. 3*. ||We stayed in the Junior Suite with sea views. The balcony was good sized. Ours overlooked the next resort and two pathways. There was a clear partition with the next balcony so not really private. We had some view of the gardens with the sea in the distant. Pleasant enough but not stunning. ||The room was spacious, airy, clean with good sized king-sized bed and fresh linen. Two overly stuffed man-sized pillows gave me a neckache. Ideally there should have been a choice of pillow grades. ||The storage was sparce. Just a small stool-type table next to each side of the bed with no storage for handbag, books, phones, iPads, glasses, drinks etc. There was a thin carasole under the TV with not much room for storing things other than small items such as undies. Half the wardrobe was taken up with a coffee station and fridge, leaving very little proper place for 'his' and 'her' storage. Nowhere to hang long dresses. No dressing table mirror!!! That was a first in 40 years. And no comfy chair to it in. ||The toilet and shower were fresh, clean and modern. However they were part of the bedroom, and were made of frosted glass with clear glass at the bottom. Everytime one person gets up at night to go to the loo the other is woken up by the lights. Some might get turned on by the sight of one's partner's trousers down by their feet when they sit on the loo. And some might not mind being seen having a shower. I found it all very exposing and lacking in privacy. ||The extra room that was part of the suite consisted of a tiny small couch and TV. The room was clean, but boxy, airless, drab without windows. Not even a picture. Horrid. Goodness knows why the coffee-making facilities were not placed in there as opposed to taking up all the wardrobe space! ||And now onto the bars. They were pleasant enough, with friendly staff and a good selection of cocktails. But cocktails are served in either cheap beakers, white plastic beakers, or even worse - horrid paper coffee cups??? No no no!!! The hotel needs serious education on the internationally recognised styles of glasses that are used to serve different drinks. These days every type of glass can be found in high-quality crystal clear, non-breakable materials that are safe for pools and the beach. ||There was great entertainment in the evenings, with fabulous singers and musicians. But no proper stage. The overhead white spotlights in both the main bar and restaurant had all the ambience of a work canteen. This could so easily be rectified with soft lighting, candles and fresh flowers. ||And now on to the food. I'm sure meat-eaters were satisfied with the vast selection. Although there was great selection of fruit, salads and breads, as vegans we really struggled to find hot vegan options. In this day and age the majority of five star restaurants across the world have a wide selection of properly labelled plant-based dishes. Kos itself is not behind the times. We had a superb vegan meal organised by Dimmitri in his fantastic jeep safari to the village Zia. Also in Kos itself there are young dynamic vegan chefs making fabulous food. Perhaps the hotel staff need some away days to get some fresh ideas!||The beach bar was located under a spectacular tree on a black pebble beach. Once upon a time it was probably very hip, but now seems dated and somewhat unloved. As above, it's those little details of art, foliage, flowers and candles that were missing. If you like spending the day on a sunbed in crowded conditions, definitely for you. We prefer long empty white sandy beaches where we can stroll for hours. But just a personal choice. ||The grounds and garden were generally pleasant and well-maintained by the hard-working staff. But in quite a few areas the ground was bare exposing water pipes. Again, one would expect the gardens to be lush and much loved in a five-star hotel. ||One final thing - the hornets and wasps. There are lots in September! Mostly they are harmless, however my partner was stung by one that was trapped in the bus returning from Kos. The hotel shop had no first aid supplies such as antihistamine cream and we had to go back into Kos to find a pharmacy. Remember to pack First Aid.||In all we had quite a pleasant holiday, and the beautiful infinity pool will reside in my memory forwaver. The Resort overall may perfectly fit the requirements of many visitors. It's not quite for us - but thank you to all the staff who were so friendly...

Facilities: 3.8/5 Room: 4.3/5 Price: 3.8/5 Service: Hit of miss with staff 3.5/5 Food quality: 3.5/5 Drinks selection: 3.5/5
PROS: Modern, well equipped and clean rooms that are very new and in good condition. Good swimming pool facilities with lots of space and sun beds. Quiet location, accessible beach. Main Bar Live music and events (Mon- Sat) Free Yoga and Pilates
CONS: Poor Customer Service with only a handful of staff Gym facilities very poor Food is sub par Overpriced Not a 5* standard
The room, a very modern and well presented room, very spacious, and modern with all the standard 5* hotel room equipment you expect, the showers are very transparent so if you aren't sharing with someone close expect them to see a lot of your silhouette.
There are a few facilities you would expect from a hotel, the gym is rather average with little to no equipment, is poorly run, has weak air conditioning, and the equipment is either old or broken. The swimming pool facilities have three main pools, a kids pool, an infinity pool. The pools are not heated, so expect them to be a touch chilly. The location of the hotel is very close to the beach; it is a private, closed beach with a hotel bar serving drinks only, The beach is rocky and pebbly; if you prefer a better beach with better sand, you should head further into the city of Kos. The hotel does not have any good deals or lacks support with any activities or excursions you want to do, best to sort yourself.
Customer Service : “Bell Boy” : A very polite, informative, punctual, and respectful man with a very welcoming presentation to the hotel, his atmosphere was very warm and made our welcome a polite time.
The main “David Hall” is where all the hit or miss customer service with staff occurs and where you will dining for all 3 of your meals, majority of the staff are polite and kind, a few remembered our drinks orders flawlessly and were very pleased with their work. However, the restaurant manager was rude and unprofessional, from her presentation, her attitude was rather negative with her stance and face. If you don’t like customers, at least put a fake smile behind it, it isn't difficult. She lacked direction in leadership with her team, ‘hands in pocket’ type of manager and was ill-informed.
Outstanding work to ‘Thanos," who provides excellent and efficient service, and I was very happy with him. The lady at lunch service for Mediterranean Resturant another kudos to her excellent service.
Yoga and Pilates : an included services to your staff, a very well instructed and well done session with the instructor. In small groups as well, overseeing the ocean.
Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner : All average buffet style food, an okay selection of food choices but nothing wow in terms or choice, was good but not amazing, tasted fine, and a lot of c choices to please those picky eaters. Breakfast has a good range of hot and cold choices, for dinner. Lunch is served at the Mediterranean restaurant, serving classic hotel lunch meals, salads, sandwiches, and lite snacks, pretty decent lunch food, which I would say is better than some of the dinners. Dinner was buffet style food with a range of English and Greek food, nothing special in terms of chocolate fountains, big steak joints, or lobster, nothing as exciting as that, the basic salad bar, one or two types of fish, vegetables, and fruit bars; plenty of chips.
Soya Fusion Restaurant – a mid-par restaurant with poor food, this Asian Fusion restaurant was rather subpar, i would compare the sushi to supermarket Tesco sushi.
Mediterranean Restaurant - offering professional and artistic style dishes, flavors were there for Mediterranean food, but none of the options was a show stoppers, where it lacked choice of all of what Kos has the offer. Both managers at the A La Cartes were flawless, shame they are short staffed.
Overall, I don’t recommend the hotel and would...
Read moreWe visited Michelangelo for one week at the begining of October. This was our third visit (and we have booked to return next year!)
Location- Out of the way from the hustle and bustle. About a 20 minute bus journey from town. Busses seem reliable and come every hour.
Rooms- Very comfortable and modern. The bed is massive and super comfy so we slept very well. The shower is also very spacious! The blackout curtains are perfect for if you want to sleep in (and they keep the room cool if you leave them closed in the day). Rooms had good air conditioning in them too.
Main Diner- Buffet style with plenty of selection. Most days we were able to try different foods. Food quality is good compared to other all inclusive hotels i have stayed in. There is sometimes a "themed night" so we could try different food from around the world. For fussy eaters they had things like pasta bolognaise, chips etc every night. Always a good selection of bread. The salad selection is always really good too!
Mediterraneo restauraunt- We ate here once in the evening and once at breakfast. We both had rib eye steak in the evening which was absolutely delicious! I could not fault anything about our evening meal! The breakfast there was also really nice. The restauraunt is situated next to the infinity pool and had a nice atmosphere on both occasions. Our waiter here was called Mickel. He was extremely friendly and welcoming!
The beach- I absolutely love the beach at Michelangelo! The steps down to the beach are surrounded by flowers, which is pretty and smell lovely! They are also great for the wildlife. We often saw little lizards around here and there were usually pollinating insects around the flowers. There was also often a cat chilling around this area, who loves a fuss! It is a pebble beach, and the waves make a lovely noise on them, which was really relaxing. The pebbles do hurt your feet, but you can buy sea shoes from the mini market, or wear flip flops to go in the sea and it is fine. We always managed to get a sunbed on the beach. You can either sit by the bar, which has music on, or sit further away if you don't want the music. The bar has a good selection of drinks. There are also sofas and beanbags to sit on here. The sea is crystal clear and there are loads of fish to look at. We spent lots of time snorkeling.
Infinity pool- this is as nice as it looks on the photos! It makes for a perfect backdrop for watching the sunrise. Excellent selection of seating/beds. Always managed to get a sunbed whatever time we turned up (unsure how it is in peak season though). There is a second pool behind this, and you can swim up to the bar.
Entertainment- The entertainment was very good. It was not the "rowdy" type which is aimed at kids (although the kids we saw looked to be having fun). We really enjoyed what we saw!
Spa- Beautiful, quiet area which smelt very nice! Had an amazing massage on our last day, which I would highly reccomend.
Animals- there is a few goats who sometimes explore the grounds. I absolutely loved seeing these around! There are also two cats which are very friendly. I also really enjoyed watching the little birds around the hotel.
The staff- All very friendly and welcoming. Some of the staff have been at Michelangelo since our first visit here, three years ago! Maria and another lady kept our room clean during our stay. They were both really nice and always stopped to say hello to us. Nina also deserves a special mention. She is always there opposite reception, and is lovely to have a good chat with. She is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much work for Nina and she did everything she could to make our stay special! Michalis is an excellent hotel manager. He is clearly respected by his team, and very passionate about ensuring guests have the best experience. We left some feedback during our stay, which he listened to and addressed immediately. He obviously cares a lot about this wonderful hotel.
Thank you to everybody at Michelangelo! We will see you...
