What a wonderful spot on earth...
We (family of 5, mid age kids) enjoyed 9 wonderful days here in April 2023.
To our opinion the Enagron Ecotourism Village is a fantastic concept for people, who love to be close to nature and expierence authentic culture.
It's located in the mountains, in between hills and wood. Naturally this in connect with the disadvantage, that you are quite fare away from shops, other restaurants and so on. We knew that before and for us it was no problem, as you can go for dinner in their restaurant (which I definitely recommend - see below). The street to the village is currently an adventure. With regular cars you need to go very slowly to prevent damages on your rental car. Nevertheless, this is manageable.
Our kids loved the donkeys, ponys and other animals... You can rent the donkeys for a walk or ride (in case of younger kids).
You can start different trails from here, which we did two times. The nature is simply impressive. We loved it. You can also do that in guided tours, if you like. By car (one to two hours driving) you also reach different sightseeing spots. Recommended are: Monastery Arkadi (very nice and cheap entry fee) Archeological museum Iraklion Rethymno Matala Iraklion
If you like hiking, you should also go to Kourtalioti Canyon, which you can cross during an impressive hike in around 3 hours. Unfortunately the famous Samaria Gorge was still closed.
The rooms are equipped simple but with traditional, rustic furniture. That's just authentic. You shouldn't expect the comfort of a 4 or 5 star hotel, which wouldn't fit into this concept. For the summer you have air condition in the rooms - For colder days they are heated (in our case the whether unfortunately was not the best). The rain shower (in some of the rooms only?) was very nice. You have everthing you need. From our point of view the beds were comfortable.
The swimmingpool is comparably big, allowing real swimming. Unfortunately due to the mixed weather, we only got the chance to use it one time. In April also the water temperature is quite cold. Nevertheless, during summer this will be a nice place to spend some relaxing time in between a fantastic nature.
The breakfast was fantastic, providing a wide choice of different local products. Highlights are the homemade breads and buns, marmelades, the honey and their pancakes. They also privide scambled and fried eggs, vegetables, fruits, cakes, yoghurt, and so on. So everybody will find something. During breakfast time everthing is available. The service is outstanding (I've visited many hotels before, also during business trips). It's impressive that everything in the foreground is mostly handled by a single person, even when many people are there in parallel - great job).
You should definetely go for dinner in their restaurant. The food is amazing. A dish of the day is provided every evening. All is homemade, authentically cretan, partly cooked on open fire. Also vegetarian dishes are provided. The Gemista (stuffed vegetables) or Moussaka for example is outstanding. Their house-wines are good as well. For us, this alone would be an argument to spend our holiday there 😉.
On two evenings we got the chance to learn how to make traditional bread, cheese and cretan dishes - A very nice experience!
Last but not least I need to mention the overwhelming friendly service, who was available for any questions at any time.
A big thank you to the whole Enagron family, who mainly contributed in making our first holiday on Crete unforgetable. We hope to have the opportunity to come...
Read moreM wife and I really enjoyed our four days at Enagron. It's about half an hours pleasant drive from the north coast (although the last 500 meters is basically a dirt track) close to the small village of Axos and surrounded by mountains and olive groves. | Our accomodation was a beautiful 2 roomed apartment with a large bedroom and even larger living room with a kitchen and two extra beds. Huge balcony with a beautiful view over the mountains, nice bathroom and plenty of cupboard space.| There is a stunning pool area with plenty of sunloungers, and most people tend to go out and explore the surrounding area during the day, so it's very quiet and peaceful until mid afternoon. There are also some very interesting activities (cooking classes, hiking tours etc) organised for the guests, so there is plenety to do during the day. Breakfast was great and the restaurant has a good selection of locally produced organic food at very reasonable prices. Which is good because we did not particularly want to drive to and from the village to another taverna after dark!.| Surprisingly to us, there were a lot of families with young children there which, apparently, is normal for July and August. Not an issue, of course, but be aware that the pool area gets crowded and noisy after about 4pm and, of course, children will be participating in the various daytime activities. Just be aware in case you are assuming it's some kind of adults only retreat.| Great value for money as well. Definitely...

The place is up in the mountains. So be prepared for a trip through some exciting mountainside roads that sometimes only accommodate one car at a time.
Getting there is an adventure in itself, but well worth it.
The rooms are great, Air-conditioned, clean and provide an authentic Cretan experience. The general vibe feels rustic with modern amenities.
The pool is great for families with an infinity pool feel on one end to enjoy the mountain views. The mini bar offers cold and refreshing relief from the hot summer sun.
Their adult only mini pools are both seclusive and offer respite from any noise.
The restaurant had specials each night. We almost always went exclusively for these options which were always gracious in portion, flavour and uniqueness.
The pricing at the restaurant is very fair, and portions generous. You must at least go on a Tuesday night when they have authentic Cretan musicians playing. There is no substitution for this authentic feel.
The additional activities are great, although the option for making food from locally sourced ingredients is at a higher rate. The rest of the activities are fairly priced and worth the time.
We'll be back in the future as these types of places are few and...
