Have been "collecting" hotel experiences for 25 years, two-to-three months a year, and Petrino Studios and Gastronomy is one of the best properties I've ever stayed at. It's a magical place.||Tripadvisor categorizes Petrino as a condo (on the website; not the app), but it's not: it's a family-owned-and-run boutique hotel/upscale agriturismo and restaurant.||Also, I'm not sure that a car is necessary stay here, as other posters have stated. I had one, and found the driving on Naxos easy and pleasant. (I recommend renting from New Car Naxos.) But, Michaelis (0030.698.335.2880) offers professional ground transportation at reasonable rates, and once you get to Petrino, you can easily spend one day walking, one day at the beach, and one day ebiking. There's no need to go elsewhere to eat, although there's a cute taverna on Abrami beach, if you're looking for a change or a midday meal.||What I loved:|- The Philoxenia. Charming, hospitable, and friendly owners/family (and housekeeper). I felt very welcome. Excellent service, from the minute they met me at my car to help with my bags, to saying goodbye at the end of my stay|- The food. Dinner every night -- four courses (including wine and a digestif) -- was Michelin-quality. The breakfasts were equally delicious. The family matriarch is an excellent chef, and most ingredients she uses are grown on their property. They accommodated my pescatarian diet with no prompting on my part. Meals are eaten outside on the deck, beneath trees, surrounded by plants and flowers, and overlooking the ocean and countryside. There was always a breeze and the pleasant churring of cicadas|-- Lulu the dog! She's very sweet|-- The location. As I mentioned, there's this giant deck with an incredible view, that you never want to leave (and there's WiFi on it.) The beach is a 10-minute walk. There's also a 6-mile (roundtrip) hike to an interesting small church, and the trek is the right level of difficulty. The hotel is easy to find, only 35-40 minutes from the ferry port and airport.|-- Ebikes. There are two for rent. Riding the winding roads, between the sea and the hills, to various historic sights and quaint towns, has been the highlight of my stay in Greece so far|-- The rooms. I stayed in 7 (Superior Studio). It was larger than your average room, and had a private deck with two sets of screened sliding doors. It was a pleasant place to hang out at night (the stars are super-bright in this part of the world), and -- because there are windows in the room -- I always enjoyed a light breeze. An airy, clean, light-filled space|-- Draught Alfa beer. Served with plump green olives|-- The prices. Both the sleeping-room and set-menu rates were more than reasonable|-- Excellent communication before, and...
Read moreThis review is about the dinner we had at Petrino; we are staying at another accommodation and stopped by Petrino to eat.
The food is by far the best we had in Naxos. It felt like going to the village to visit my Greek grandma in the summer and she had cooked to welcome and please us.
A lot of restaurants say they use local ingredients, this restaurant actually does. Not only locally produced, but also grown in the family’s garden. Everything you eat tastes as it should, the tomatoes, the cucumber, everything is real and flavorful. The dishes are authentically Greek, cooked to perfection, no twists and gimmicks to pretend it’s something different. And no commercial or industrial stuff. It is literally like you go back in time and get a taste of Greece from decades back.
The menu is set and it is different every day. Basically they decide what to cook on the day based on the best that the local market and their garden have to offer that day:
The ambience is beautiful, you are on an elevated stone patio overlooking the mountains and the sea.
The service is great and effortless; authentic Greek hospitality coming from the heart. Clean, neat, thoughtful, great presentation; and everyone showing you how genuinely happy they are to see you enjoy the food.
Highly recommended, if you are looking for authentic quality Greek food, like you would expect it if you are not from around here or you may remember it from your childhood if...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 nights in mid-September 2019. It was heaven. Our studio room was spacious with a huge deck sheltered by a little pine tree. We had a view of the ocean from our room and from the deck. The bed was very comfortable. But that is barely the beginning. This is a beautiful spot on the NW side of the island, built up over years with love and care by the patriarch of the family. You can feel this and see this. His wife is an amazing cook. A totally homemade breakfast is included and don't miss dinner on their gorgeous circular stone deck overlooking the sea. Your hostess, their daughter, is warm and welcoming and just a lovely person. And she has a sparkling, happy 6 month old daughter. Dad is there always to help with child care and anything needed. So this is a beautiful family hosting you. We felt they hold the Ancient Greek art of welcoming strangers in the warmest way possible. We loved the North side of the island. Driving north out of Abramas where Petrino is located, we found the scenery to put Big Sur to shame. The beach at Abramas Bay is very nice when the wind is down and you can always drive south to the resort beaches. Coming home to the shelter of Petrino's trees after a day out in the sun and open air was so relaxing. As others have said, it is difficult to put this whole experience into words. It was exquisite. You are lucky to have found this listing. Book...
