What a fabulous, almost exclusive, place.
Three villas with a shared pool, set aside from the main hotel.
Clean, well equipped, and fully stocked with bread, butter, honey, eggs and oranges (freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast).
The staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful.
The food at the hotel was tasty, with decent portions sizes, followed by complimentary Raki and home made Greek yoghurt (made with goats milk, from their own goats) with lemon rind (lovely and sweet).
The villa was set on a working farm, and the tinkle of sheep bells was really lovely.
And so many sheep!
Within walking distance you will find the cave where the water drained the huge lake, that then created Omalos.
6 minutes drive, you will find Samaria Gorge. Be prepared, its a 4 hour walk if you are fast, 7 hours if not.
You will need to get a boat, and a bus to get you back, so it's a full day.
There are water refill points, but you need to ensure you have plenty of protection from the elements. Suncream us essential, as are very strong, very comfortable...

When we found the Omalos Village Apartments, we knew the ascent was worth it. Let's start with the best feature of the house, admittedly the fireplace. You could spend the whole night sitting in front of it. The house is nicely decorated, the kitchen is modern and the bedrooms are cozy. You have an amazing view over the Lefka Ori, and in summer you can have breakfast or a barbecue in front of the house. We really fell in love with the place. I would have loved to stay a...
Read moreWe are a family of 5 and stayed here in order to hike the Samaria Gorge. We loved our chalet with two bedrooms and a spacious lounge with fireplace. The chalet was so well equipped you could stay there for a month - washing machine, fully equipped modern kitchen including a food processor. Everything looked brand new.||The family runs a restaurant a short walk away and we ate a nice traditional dinner there. The restaurant opens early in the morning so you can buy coffee, sandwiches and other supplies to take on the hike.||This place was the best value for money and would definitely come again for a...
