This is, hands down, the best place in Crete we have eaten at! Even though we traveled from the north of the island to Koutelo, we do not regret the drive. We wanted to have a road trip through the mountains and we stumbled upon this little gem. The food was absolutely delicious. The fish soup is their best-seller, and for good reason. We had an appetizer consisting of Meze Platter (a mixed plate), fries and garlic bread. For the main courses, we had fish soup, stew lamb and fish of the day grilled. Our entire party of 4 (including a pretty picky 5-year old) was impressed by how tasty EVERYTHING was! I don't think you can go wrong whatever you choose at this establishment. The food is made with fresh ingredients and is very reasonably priced. After dinner, we went for a stroll along the pebbled beach, the tavern is located right on the beach. Sept 2021 - We had a long lazy lunch after swimming and sunbathing on the beach in front of the restaurant. The best food we have had in Crete and fantastic service. Well worth a visit. 19 Sep 2022 - we are back in Crete and made a special visit to eat and use the beach. The food is still as good as anywhere we have eaten in Crete. We had some of the daily specials (snails, fish soup and orzo with prawns) as well as some simple lamb chops. All were delicious. The beach has sun loungers and is great for snorkelling and swimming although it is worth having beach shoes to combat the pebbles at the water’s edge. The best summer holidays destination for the whole family!!! The beach is right under your feet. The place is pretty isolated from the the hustle and bustle of the city and one can enjoy his/her vocation quietly and peacefully…when it comes to the staff, they’re all so kind and helpful and always at your disposal!!!
