This is a Greek hotel for Greeks mainly, but the owner George speaks English. You need a hire car to reach it: it's as far up Mount Golas as you can go without crampons. It takes about 30mins to drive up there, and the view is SO WORTH IT when you arrive. ||||You have perfect views of the mountains especially the pyramid peak of Mt Ymmitos, and the area is perfect for daytime walks, or driving to the beach, or heading to the amazing Mystras, a Byzantine city on the side of another mountain. If you want to really get away, and experience peace and quiet, local produce and Greek home cooking, the Faris is hard to find but perfect to stay in, relax in, eat in, and base yourself in while you explore the Peloponnese. ||||Drive carefully and be aware of the farmers and villagers as you go up and down! Especially the goatherd and his goats... you get fresh feta from them in the Faris, and local honey, local crops, and locally hunted boar which are pretty dangerous so don't go out at night if the boar are migrating. Not that you can go too far - it's pitch black with no light pollution, and the perfect place to stargaze from the balcony.||||There is a monastery on the mountain - Golas Monastery - which is sometimes locked. When open the priest only speaks Greek but will let you in and let you have a wander around. There was probably a pagan site on this site but the monastery itself has very old foundations and is picturesque as well as being an interesting part of Byzantine history.||||I have stayed here several times with my mum, her friend and my partner, and it was a great trip each time. We hired a car in Athens and drove there - about 3-4 hours as we went via Ancient Corinth and spent some time there first. On the way back we went via Mycenae for my partner's birthday. The nights are so clear there that I took my first astral photos and got to do some stargazing! We had our own equipment. ||||George is a great host and lives there and has a house in Sparti, the nearest town. His dogs are at the hotel and are working dogs, but friendly! We will continue to...

Read moreWe stayed here nearly 6 months ago for one day and got marvellous empression. The hotel is located on the top of mountain (nearly 980 m above the sea). Picturesque view and hospitable hosts made us feel free and as we were at home. Our room was very clean and quite large with comfortable bathroom and huge bed. After long trip we ate here delicious Greek salad with home-made goat cheese, bread and pink wine. We were offered other different national dishes but we refused because we were too tired. But if you are there it's worth eating! After dinner we fell asleep. There weren't any mosquitos so we staed balcony doore opened. Clear air and the sound of light wind gave us deep dream. The next morning we had to go to Patri very early and hosts were so kind to prepare breakfast at convinient for us time (nearly 7.30-8.00 am). There were lots of taste things: omlette (made of natural egges), fresh squezzed orange juice (is natural too), milk, home-made jams, honey, pancakes and so on. What is more, the mountain surrounding, special atmosphere and decoration of the hotel is close to Austrian but with unique Greek hospitality. At this hotel you"ll get two national atmospheres in one: it's cool! Some words about hospitable hosts: they are family couple with two dogs, three cats and one bird Pipin. They all are calm, kind, talkative and polite! Thank you for our exellent rest and your attentive attitude to us!!! Liza and Andrew
