Splendid Greek hospitality in the serene mountains of Arcadia Review of Foresta in Medias Mores Pending review
If you want to experience a different side of Greece, a quiet escape from tourist areas, surrounded by remote mountains and thousands of acres of forest, then the Foresta is for you. More of a small rustic lodge or inn than a hotel, the Foresta exudes warm Greek hospitality -- owners Nadia and Christos can't do enough for guests -- but with a touch of sophistication too. We loved the natural appearance of the stone buildings and the stone and wood decor of our room. The decor is repeated in the lovely cafe-bar, which has an enormous wood-burning stove. The delicious food isn't typical tourist fare either -- it reflects more modern Greek cuisine, a seasonal menu with Peloponnese specialities, using locally sourced ingredients, including from Christos's family gardens. We also loved the proximity to the traditional village of Vlachokerasia -- a real place where real people live (don't look for any postcards here). And yet the Foresta is very convenient as a base for day trips to famous archaeological sites across the Peloponnese. But mostly it's the AMAZING views of the forest and Taygetos mountain range, and the clean mountain air, that caused us to return here -- and we'll be back again. We've been all over Greece many times so we know the Foresta is utterly unique -- it really is the "other" Greece -- tranquility...
Read moreQuaint place for getting away from it all. The mountains reminded me of the Smokey Mountains. It was all green with a couple sprinklings of small villages out in the distance. That's it. All nature. Quiet. ||It's quite a large spread but with only 12 rooms. Everyone faces the mountains and has either a deck or patio to enjoy the outdoor scenery. ||There is a good spread of food for breakfast but you can also order other food. Dinners are laid back and never in a hurry. The cook will inform you what is available that, even though there is a menu. In the meantime, you can have a drink and enjoy the view while she prepares the meal. They'll let you know when it's ready. That's the kind of casual family owned business it is. ||I placed our reservation through Expedia and it was hard to find. Expedia only listed Vlachokerasia as the address which is actually the name of the village. You have to watch for signs posted on the buildings to find the hotel. Eventually you get on a one lane asphalt road and think you're heading out in country but then it pops up. We had to ask the locals for directions. Some boys biked to the road we needed to find. As we thanked them, one said, "We hope you like our little village." Yes, we did. We'll always remember that line. We'll always remember this hotel and village because it...
Read moreForesta was beyond my expectations, with big, clean, comfortable, spacious rooms, exquisitely decorated with everything you might need. The views of the surrounding forest and mountains was a treat to wake up to each morning from my balcony while enjoying a cup of local mountain tea. I was part of an artist workshop and Nadia and Chris attended to our every need. We felt part of their family being graciously welcomed and provided for. The food is beyond amazing; we couldn't wait to see what would be presented for our next meal. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our walks to a small local church just up the road while watching the local beekeeper attend to the hives on the side of the road. A perfect place for a retreat or a home base to explore further around the Pelopponese. I highly recommend! To the owners and staff, I miss you and look forward to returning. ...
