hotel Merope — Hotel in Municipality of Western Samos

Rooms are decent size but the shower is tiny. 5ft9 220lbs and could barely fit in the shower. Water pressure was abysmal, and you can’t keep the room cool with the room card. Breakfast has no main items only sides and the options aren’t many. The pool was straight green due to the unknown time of algae build up. When asked we were told it was cleaned at 8pm every night. After staying one night and looking the next it looked exactly the same. Algae lined the edges of the pool. Hotel is friendly with you until you have a problem, when you confront them about it they have no respect that your paying them and your on vacation. Our toilet wouldn’t flush and when we were told they fixed it we tried it and it was still not flushing. Went to receptionist and she insisted that It was working after I just tried it and couldn’t flush the crap in the toilet. Back and forth telling her it wouldn’t flush and her telling me it’s fixed. I told the receptionist that she should come to the room and try to flush my crap herself if she didn’t believe me. Then was told it would take 30 minutes to bring someone out. Just checked into the hotel and rooms at first look clean but when you start looking closely there is a lot that gets overlooked. The fridge had stains inside and dust covered the menus and furniture. The pool was covered in algae and when we asked why it was so green the receptionist told us it was because the tile is green. Which was false and when asked how frequently it was cleaned we were told every night. I put my hand in and was able to scrape off algae with my bare hand. This much algae build up consist of at least month of inadequate cleaning and I refused to go in. Unfortunately one of the reasons we booked this hotel was the pool and it was a big disappointment, especially when the employees try to lie about it to my face. The bed if you need to split it is a twin size so if your bigger person you’ll need the beds connected. The furniture is very outdated as well. Overall looks way better on the internet, for the price not bad but they need to update the pictures to show people what to actually expect. When we talked to the manager about it the shrugged it off and gave no respect towards our concerns. Also good luck with the internet it’s horrible. Merope Hotel is in a very good location near the Karlovasi Limani where there are many eateries and a lively atmosphere. It is also very close to the city of Karlovasi and within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and welcoming! Christina especially, was extremely helpful in recommending excellent places to eat and sightsee. Everywhere she recommended was as she said, superb! As there was no kettle in our room, we asked if there was a spare one we could have. They gave us one with a couple of cups, which we appreciated. They also said if we asked for tea or coffee, they'd make it and bring it up to us! A service not found at any other hotels!! The shower was great! This was our fourth week in Greece, and everywhere else we stayed, always had the shower over a bath, sometimes even without a shower curtain! The shower here at Merope Hotel was a separate enclosed shower with sliding doors! Wonderful! Breakfast every morning was plentiful with many choices. However, it would have been good if there were a few changes to some of the dishes from day to day. It just got a bit monotonous having the same thing for 7 days.
