We stayed at Marnei Mare in July 2009. We stayed for one of two weeks booked, which was to celebrate my brother and sister inlaws 50th Birthdays which included friends and family as guests. We occupied all three villas The villas were very nice and the sourrounds were absolutely beautiful. We were lucky early in our stay as the weather favoured us being able to swim in both adjoining coves, swim in caves and swim through rock formations. Later in the week the prevailing conditions made it a bit dangerous, so we utilised the very nice pool. A lovely breakfast was served every moring, the best yoghurt and honey ever tasted to date, however there was little variation in the breakfast available. The villas were beautifully decorated, however we spent little time there always favouring the pool area. It was easy to get around the island once you have hired your own car. There is a video posted on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V69IF_Jv5kE and also a review in the Australian http://www.theaustralian.com.au/travel/world/same-old-samos/story-fn30267p-1225889295778 in which they quote our stay. It was one of my most wonderful travel experiences ever and I would highly recommend it. Day trips can be undertaken to Turkey to visit Ephesus, though you dont need to leave the island to see wonderful things. The villas can be a little noisy for those staying on the ground floor as there is no carpets in the rooms above and as you are on a little populated area be prepared to see some wild life and some insects. We saw dolphins swimming off the coast. Local musicians were hired in and a feast prepared for us under the grape covered pergola between two of the villas and this is a night I will never forget. The gardens held many hidden delights such as games and winding paths. The background is one of a spectacular bluff. Overall Wonderful...
Read moreThe villas/cottages are set in the most beautiful location with stunning sea and mountain views from most angles. We were on the second floor apartment of villa 2 which is stylishly decorated in modern country cottage style and is a very spacious double room with great storage and ensuite shower room/toilet. It had a lovely balcony area. There is a lovely shared lounge and eating area downstairs with kitchen. Was stocked with essentials on arrival - fresh fruit, local bread, range of teas, fresh coffee and cake! There is an additional open kitchen/seating area down by the pool! With the Marnei Mare, private area there is access to the sea which is wonderful for swimming, dipping and relaxing and there is also a private outdoor pool with sea and mountain views. I would definitely stay here again. It would be good if they could put a higher shower bracket so that you don't have to hold the shower head in one hand whilst showering but this is minor and easily remedied. You can hear the people in the twin apartment underneath but this didn't bother us as there so many quite places to be peaceful in the grounds. The villas are spotlessly clean and well maintained, cleaned every day. Dom keeps the gardens and grounds beautiful and there are wonderful flowers, trees and organic fruits all around and the lemons smell and taste divine. There is wifi around the grounds, however we couldn't get it in our apartment or communal kitchen area/lounge but could get it on our balcony and immediately outside our apartment and around the pool area, so wasn't a problem. We came to Marnei Mare to do Advanced Thai Yoga Massage Training and it was the perfect...
Read moreWe first decided to go to Samos after a friend recommended it. There were 6 of us going together so finding somewhere that suited all of us wasn't easy. Samos proved to be all that we expected (we steered clear of the busy touristy areas). Marnei Mare is easily the best place I - and all of us for that matter - have ever stayed at.||It is situated on a peninsula with two fantastic beaches / coves of its own and an amazing pool with great cocktails to enjoy what must be the most amazing sunset anywhere outside of santorini (another favourite).||We arrived and were greeted by some of the most hospitable people in Greece (pkalliope gets a special mention). During our stay we were also lucky that Catherina Mytilineou the owner was there. She gives the place a special air of relaxed charm, much lacking in most places I've visited elsewhere in Greece. The fact that it is still a relatively untouched part of the world, meant that the rest of the people staying at Marnei Mare were all also very interesting and nice to hang out with.||We enjoyed great meals at Marnei Mare but make sure you also visit Karlovasi, a fishing village nearby and eat at the local fish tavernas there.||Not very relevant to us but it looks like a place good for families with children too with various services...
