Hotel Alkyonis — Hotel in Municipality of Zacharo

Our booking at Hotel Alkionis was almost a last minute one, while we have been searching for 2 or 3 rooms around the greater area of western Peloponnese. We travelled - a family of four, together with our two friends (a couple, my daughter's god parents).The manager of Alkionis promised to find something for us. We were given two of the newly refurbished rooms. A lovely studio for us with a double bed on one level and 2 single beds for the kids on the upper level - and a beautiful double room for our friends, with backlight effects on the roof and behind the bedhead. The rooms were spacious, the wooden furniture all new and nicely designed, the double bed mattress was fantastic and the beautiful bathrooms, newly done and sparkling clean, with a great big shower area and soft clean towels every day. The rooms were of a 5 star hotel and the value for money was fantastic, in mid August (full high season).The staff was very kind and helpful and the owner very friendly. The well maintained swimming pool counterbalances the fact that the sea is not so close. The hotel is located right off the "national road" which makes it very convenient if you want to make daily trips throughout western Peloponnese, as we did. (there are fantastic places to visit, from Kaiafa's Lake, 2 min. drive from the hotel, to Ancient Olympia, the forest of Foloi, Ancient Methoni, and Polylimnio -- a unique complex of waterfalls and blue lagoons 20 kilometers from Pylos and 30 from Kalamata). We had an excellent holiday. We would strongly recommend this hotel with no hesitation. Thank you Panagiotis, we would love to come back...

Lovely hotel and friendly owners and staff. The room we stayed in was amazing, very clean and comfortable with a large bathroom and a separate area for our children. The furniture seemed new and modern and the bed was very comfortable. There is a flat TV in the main room and a small old style TV in the separate area. For the price, I would have appreciated a flat TV in both areas, coffee amenities in the room as well as a clothes airer in the balcony already there-without having to ask for it- (after all, we are on holiday, where are we supposed to hang swimsuits and beach towels to dry?) The pool was clean and good size and the area is great with some beautiful beaches and beach bars within a 5-minute drive. The wifi is also working very well. I took one star out not because of the tv, coffee and dryer I mentioned above but for the following two reasons: In the mornings, the pool area was full of bees/wasps (I have never seen so many). Surely the owners can do something about it as we never had this in any other hotel. Fortunately, in the afternoons/evenings they disappeared. For me, the a/c is a bit too noisy (but I must admit it works perfectly and it also kept our children asleep for longer in the mornings😊).

In any case, I would happily return to this hotel in the future and would definitely...

I couldn't be happier that we stumbled upon this hotel, as we were currently staying in a less than desirable (that's putting it mildly) 'hotel' about 15 km away. ||||Alkionis was updated within the past couple years-and it shows! Everything at the hotel looks brand new; its obvious that they employ a staff that does an excellent job at cleaning and maintaining their entire property. I was in complete awe - from their sparkling pool that was landscaped beautifully to the large walk in showers, it truly was a hidden gem. ||||OH YES, and the bed. . . the bed rivaled my own bed at home, it was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! The high thread count soft sheets didn't hurt either! ;) ||||For us the location of the hotel was IDEAL because of our family being about 15km away, however we found LOTS of other stuff in close proximity too. It is about 20 minutes from Ancient Olympia and while you're in the area make sure to check out the Natural Springs of Kalithea which is just a short drive down the road from Alkionis. ||||Seriously couldn't have asked for a better hotel - excellent amenities and very attentive and friendly staff! We will DEFINITELY be back...
