EDITED ADDITION AT THE END ORIGINAL REVIEW: Absolutely horrible. This hotel is way too expensive for the experience we are having. We arrived after a long journey to find a room full of giant ants. Everywhere. We specifically booked this hotel because it said it had air conditioning. Turns out that is not true. On top of that, the water doesn’t get hot. At all. To pay almost $1,000 for a weeks stay and not even have hot water is absurd. The Barceló hotel in Guatemala City is less expensive and SOOOOO much higher class. We are fuming. Beds are rock hard. Room is large and spacious but SO HUMID AND STICKY due to the lack of AC. They place an extra charge for EVERYTHING. Slippers offered but only if you pay Q90. Sodas and drinks offered in room but only for Q15 to Q30. It’s insane. Never have I paid for such an expensive room and not had these things included as complimentary amenities.
We lived in Alta Verapaz for 6 years. We are no stranger to the mountains but my own home here in Alta Verapaz never had ants crawling all over and always had hot water and we only paid less than half the price of this hotel in rent for a whole month. SKIP IT. DO NOT STAY HERE. We are livid. To be honest, I could deal with the horribly uncomfortable beds and maybe even the ants, if there was hot water. But if I’m paying so much money, I can’t live without hot water for a week. We will update the review when we see if they are going to refund us or give us an ant free room with hot water or we will be looking for somewhere else to stay. Maybe with friends in town.
EDITED INFORMATION: Two stars have been added to this review because, my husband went to reception in the morning and explained that our room was infested with bugs and we had no hot water. They said they would check on it. What we didn’t know was, that meant they sent someone who barged into the room while I was sleeping, turning on all the lights. He did not pass into the part of the room where he could see me half dressed in bed, but he did wake me up. He said the water was heating and I told him that barely lukewarm was not hot and respectfully, we expect more for the price. My husband was not happy to hear he came in our room while I was alone and asleep. So he went back to reception. They were incredibly apologetic and offered to take him around to choose a room that suited us. After looking at 5 or 6 different rooms he finally found one with hot water. We changed to that room and they gave us a complimentary breakfast for the trouble. This room is ant free as well. That’s honestly all I can ask for at the point. We appreciate their readiness to help remedy...
Read moreFirst of all, I’d like to say that the room we stayed in was amazing! The view was incredible and we had a quite relaxing weekend. Why I’m giving this hotel a 1 star review is the inconsistency of the prices and that we were completely blindsided and got overcharged. First, on their website, they advertised a package “Full Relax Pareja”. In this packet, they included breakfast of up to 200Q and Dinners of up to 400Q (for the two days we were staying), a 45 min message, jacuzzi, and temazcal. All this was equal to 3600Q for 2 nights with taxes equaling 792Q. This brought our full total to 4392Q. When we got to the hotel, although we booked everything online, they had a problem with our room and that it was not what was advertised in the packed. Long story short, they upgraded us to the presidential suite and we were told that we were going to be charged the package fee like we’ve ordered online (when initially, they said that’s not what was in our booking). By the end of the weekend, when it was time to check out, they brought us our bill of 5190Q. The front desk explained to us that all the maths equaled out and because we were too tired to fight, we just paid and left. When booking this hotel - please be careful with the inconsistencies of the prices online versus what you actually have to pay. The bill was not clearly explained to us and it looked like in the end, we had to pay for everything: the breakfasts, dinners, and...
