Estancia del Monje — Hotel in Cobán

We’re staying in this hotel right now and honestly I don’t understand some of the service decisions here. When we arrived at dusk, the door to our room was wide open with the lights on, so it was full of bugs. ??? What decision is that? We spent the first 10 minutes squashing mosquitoes, flies, spiders, gnats, etc etc etc that were swarming everywhere. Then the screen to our room’s window was totally ripped (see photo) and because there’s no AC, being able to get cool air into the room via the window is kinda critical. I asked if we could move to a different room, no. (Not “we’re full and there are no more rooms” by the way, just “no.”) Can it be repaired? No. Can we have some staples or tape to repair it ourselves? No. Okay so…I guess we just suffer? The “IDGAF” attitude of the service staff is not impressive and honestly it doesn’t really matter how pretty the grounds are if you’re totally miserable half the time. (Also the bed is uncomfortable and the headboard isn’t attached to anything so it bangs into the wall at the slightest movement.)...

Very nice hotel nestled among pleasant vegetation, with nice and comfortable cabins. The rooms are spacious, the shower is good, the bed is small but that's the standard size here in Guatemala. There's no air conditioning, but there is a fan, which is quite sufficient for the temperature at this altitude, at least in July.

We arrived at night, and the man at the entrance was very pleasant and efficient. Every issue we brought to his attention received an immediate, good and efficient response. Excellent service.

Breakfast is small and basic, like at other places - maybe a bit more basic than usual.

Very quiet and pleasant...

Cuando estas preguntado por hospedaje te atienden de la mejor manera, te mandan mil fotos y estan pendientes de tu reservación; pero al llegar al lugar todo lo contrario. En plena semana santa nos hospedamos llegamos 7ymedia justo media hora antes de cerrar el restaurante y lo primero que hicimos fue ir a pedir para no quedarnos sin comer; en el restaurante hay un letrero que dice el tiempo de estadía hasta las 9:30pm. Nos dieron la cena rapido; porque a las 8empunto la señorita cocinera empieza a cerrar las puertas y apagar las luces... ni seña que se querian ir rápido. Para completar no se a que arquitecto se le ocurrió la brillante idea de hacer habitaciones justo arriba y a la par del restaurante, se escuchá cuando estan picando y cocinando; pero mas brillante del que nos asignó ese lugar cuando el hotel estaba casi vacío. Bajamos a desayunar a las 9:30 (el desayuno termina de servirse a las 10:30 y por el precio de hospedaje te incluyen el desayuno) El de recepción se acerca y pregunta si podemos cancelar la cena pendiente en ese instante de manera prepotente porque el se tiene que ir hacer otras cosas. Cuando nisiquiera el café nos habian servido, le comentamos que sí que esperara que terminaramos de comer, insistió por segunda diciendo que se tenia que ir hacer otras cosas, se fue y regresó a lo que nos contestó que la cena de la noche anterior la tomaria como el desayuno porque él se tenia que ir hacer otras cosas, NO NOS QUIZO SERVIR EL DESAYUNO, no le importó que hubieran niños. PESIMO SERVICIO DE ATENCIÓN, NO NOS VOLVEREMOS A HOSPEDAR NUNCA, NO LO RECOMENDAMOS....
