My family and I visited Playa Quilombo and stayed for 5 nights in June. Although the rainy season, no rain got in our way during the day (there were just some evening storms).||If you're looking for a true remote paradise, this is the place to go. Peter picked us up from the airport, and we started our journey to his hotel. After about a 2.5 hour drive to the mainland town, we hopped on a boat for another 15-20 minutes and made it to the property. There's almost a Gilligan's Island-esque feel, which we very much enjoyed.||The area is incredibly remote...during our beach walks, we could go 2 miles and not see another person. This allowed for us to practically have a private beach to ourselves, soaking up the gorgeous Pacific coast. When not walking on the beach or frolicking in the waves (the sea is rather unpredictable, and it's safest not to go too deep), we spent our time swimming in the pool, playing ping pong, or laying on a beachside hammock and reading our books. If we wanted, we could also have kayaked on the channel side of the island.||If you need absolute relaxation, rejuvenation, and connection to nature this is your spot. There's no wifi (which we actually enjoyed) and depending on your accommodations (we stayed in the beach side cabins), they are partially open air. This means bugs could get in, but with the mosquito nets we found it fine. The whole place is covered with these stunning mosaics.||Peter, Jimmy, and Anina were all so accommodating, kind, and made us feel like home. We all agreed the food here was the best of our trip across the country. Every meal was home cooked, flavorful, and delicious. Also...the best homemade tortillas we had! Would absolutely recommend heading off the beaten path to visit this beautiful part of Guatemala's coast, enjoy some delicious food, and...
Read morePeter's hotel is fine. It's just not GREAT, and it has the potential to be. ||||Pro's: Excellent food; meals included in the price, and price is reasonable. Peter (owner/manager) is very accomodating. He even let us push our reservation back one day on very short notice with no penalty. It's easy to find Las Lisas if you follow the directions on the hotel's website, and the drive from Guatemala City was very scenic and easy. The hotel seems to be off the tourist track, and we shared our weekend with many local families and groups of friends, which was really nice. ||||Cons: It's advertised as an eco hotel, but to me that label is an excuse to do things cheaply...use saltwater in the pool, showers, and bathroom faucets. I saw only 1 eco-friendly lightbulb on the whole property, there's no recycling of plastic bottles that I know of, and there didn't even seem to be an option to refill a reusable water bottle; we had to buy a new bottle of water each time we ran out. ||||The place overall gives off a bit of a cheap feeling. A little money to spruce it up--add more walkways through the hot black sand, fresh tiling or paint, a more well-stocked bar--would go a very long way. I mentioned that the price is reasonable--and it is, considering food is included--but I expected the rooms to be a little bit nicer for the price we paid. ||||Peter is, as I said, an accomodating host...but he's not overly friendly or welcoming. Service was adequate, surely, but it did not stand out as going above and beyond. ||||I enjoyed my stay at Playa Quilombo, but there's not much that would make me recommend it over other hotels I...
Read moreThis experience was awesome! I am a female solo traveler and was greeted by Peter, the owner at the airport. He is lovely and shared about his many experiences in Guatemala. We were met by a boat that took us to the eco lodge, the experience was breathtaking. We travelled over calm waters by the light of a full moon. ||||The cabin I stayed in was right on the beach and very comfortable. There are hammocks to relax in and they arranged for nightly bonfires on the beach. It was a great opportunity to safely socially distance but to meet people and learn more about the culture. The manage was incredible and really worked to ensure that all guests enjoyed the experience. ||||||This truly is an eco lodge that cares about the environment. It is an internet -free lodge which allows for people to connect with one another and reconnect with nature. There are 2 joining natural swimming pools that are surrounded by plants and have some palapa coverings that allow for shade. ||||Everywhere you look there are so many loving details. You are surrounded by beauty and creativity around every corner. It is completely safe and so peaceful. ||Staff follow covid protocol. ||||They offered a great variety of food and the staff were lovely! Shrimp, sol, chicken and vegan options are available. ||||What more could...
