I was there ca. 1979 and I went back because I remembered a good experience. And I was not dissapointed. The staff is nice, kind and helpful. Nohemí, Lesly and Bernabe do a great job making you feel welcome. We got a charming cabin, with fireplace. The hotel is located in the midst of the highlands´ woods, so it can be humid; and that does not make it less lovely. The food is good, way over the average food in hotels by the road. It could be improved, yes; but it has a lot of character. I recomend their kakik (traditional turkey soup) and their breakfasts (pancakes with bees´honey are utterly good). Next time I go to "las verapaces" I sill stay again at La posada de la montaña del quetzal. No doubt. The location is superb, not only because of the woods, but also because it is near the town of Purulha (nice market and friendly people), and to the Biotopo of the quetzal (a must, in the area if you enjoy nature and hiking), plus other...

Negatives; the toilet tank leaked a little leaving a puddle in the corner of the bathroom, and the shower drained very slowly. That said, the water for the shower was hot, and the bed was clean and comfortable enough. The room could perhaps use brighter lights to cheer up the gloom. Given the few tourist hotel options nearby, though, this is a nice facility at a reasonable price. ||||The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, and the one dinner we ate here was quite qood.||||The hotel property is very nice for bird watching with gardens, streamside forest edge habitat, a pine grove, and hummingbird feeders. It's also close to other good birding sites in the...
Read moreWe were passing through on our way to Antigua. Our first room (bungalow 13) was infested with biting ants - they had a go at both our feet. After informing reception we were given no.15 which is 2 bedroom & 'free of pests' as the kind man said. The bungalows are large & quite rustic. The beds are hard and uncomfortable as is the seating. A/c isn't necessary due to the altitude - hence the fireplaces. Clean bathroom with hot water. Wifi is only available in the restaurant or the 'games room'. Nowhere comfortable to sit. Parking right next to the bungalow was a bonus, especially as it rained heavily from the time we arrived & most of the night (tis the rainy season after all!) It's OK...
