Ram Tzul is perfectly located for easy access to Biotopo El Quetzal, being some distance from Coban. It is worth staying at least a night here so you can enjoy the spectacular orchids in both the reception area and the gardens and do the walk to the base of the waterfall that is on the river in the Ram Tzul Reserve. If you don't want to walk then you can ride a horse to the lookout over the valley and waterfall. The horses don't descend to the pool at the base of the falls which must be a great place to swim on a hot day. There are fixed mounting blocks at various points to aid the occaisional rider in mounting and dismounting. The rooms were enormous but sparsely furnished and we had plenty of hot water. The food was unremarkable and only really barely adequate, and the service was agonisingly slow. The ubiquitous movie soundtrack played until we suggested that it be rested. The dinning area is filled with orchids in flower and various curios made from bamboo. There is an interesting fire pit area which was not burning on the night we stayed. The dinning area is semi-open to the outside and tendrils of mist drifted in as we ate. Don't let the uninspiring food and slow service put you off - Ram Tzul is in a great location to access the Biotopo El Quetzal and the gardens, buildings and waterfall in its own reserve are...
Read moreThe place is beautiful. The top rooms have great views of the forest and mountain. The bottom rooms were good as well. They had hot water and were clean. No TV which was perfect for us and had a good night sleep. ||There is no AC in the rooms but we stayed in December so nights were cool enough so you didn't need it. ||My main issue with the hotel is the lack of staff in the restaurant. There were two waiters in charge of the restaurant, bar, reception, rooms, and the hotel in general when we checked in. They were trying their best to keep the customers happy but they were doing too much. Food and drinks took forever to get out, and the food was often cold. I saw staff working from early in the morning to very late at night which should be unacceptable.||One more thing, when I called to make the reservation I told the staff that I was traveling with someone in a wheelchair. She reserved room 10 which she said would be easily accessible. This room was the best room for her out of the rest because there are no steps to access it. However, the hotel is definitely not set up for a person in a wheelchair. To get to the rooms, you have to go through the restaurant which is full of stairs and...
Read moreLocated at a short ride from the Biotopo del Quetzal (on the right side of the highway before the Biotopo if you come from Guatemala City) Ram Tzul offers a good location surrounded by the same cloudy forest and with its own private reserve. The staff is very kind and attentive. Rooms are clean and well maintained, but do not expect to find a TV, which is why it's the perfect place if you're planning to disconnect for a couple of days while visiting the Biotopo and/or any of the surrounding private reserves. ||Rooms are located in bungalow units, where you could stay either on the first floor or the second floor. Either one has great views to the surrounding forest, but since the top floor is made of wood, it felt a lot warmer than the bottom floor. Also, the first floors have a small porch and access to the gardens close to the forests, while the top floors have more direct access to the main path. Food was good and at a good price compared to the food in the...
