I was invited to do a feng shui blessing for this property during the auspicious last weekend of February 2015. It was such an amazing experience to take the boat in the evening and be warmly welcomed by Angelica, Rut and Max. The dining area next to the kitchen was a wonderful place to hang out and watch the sunrise and sunsets while having breakfasts and dinners. The views are gorgeous! All the rooms have lovely views of Lake Atitlan! Our room had a balcony overlooking the dock and the main terrace; it was so peaceful and relaxing - much different than living in midtown NYC next to Penn Station! And my wife was inspired to paint the green forested mountains during sunset;-) Angelica treated us to her delicious cooking; homemade tortillas, black beans, rice and chicken and eggs were made differently every morning! We especially loved her handmade plaintains filled with sweet black bean paste filling....Mmmmmmm. And her sister, Rut, was so helpful with the cooking, serving and cleaning. My wife and I even played the card game Uno with them; it was so much fun. On Sunday, Angelica and Rut personally took us on a tour to Santiago Lake Atitlan - it was such an amazing trip with them!!! They took us via the local transportation - from the boat, onto a little tuk tuk, then onto the back of the pick-up truck with the locals hanging onto a bar from San Lucas to Santiago thru the winding hills and forests....what a thrilling experience! After visiting the Sunday morning church service, we also met with a shaman with Maximon, a diety who offered us protection and safety. The fun part was conversing with Angelica and Rut; they spoke very little English and we spoke very little Spanish. But, we got along famously with lots of laughs and handwritten notes of translation;-) And it was so sad + heartfelt when we had to leave La Villa de los Dioses. And Angelica was so considerate to call the car service at Panachel; if she did not do that, our boat could not dock near the our landing point. We will never forget our wonderful time at this...
Read moreNO WATER...NO INTERNET...NO TV for 2 days. We planned for 6 nights and left in a hurry after 2. You MUST take a boat to this Hotel, but when we called the Hotel, they said there was no shuttle. We were forced to spend Q500 and then found out there WAS A SHUTTLE. We complained about BROKEN GLASS in the room and they sent up a broom and dust pan. Their shuttle is a disgrace, there are broken railings and paint splattered all over the bathroom. See the photos. When we checked in there were no towels, no pillows and no T-paper. We had an emergency at 3 am and THERE WAS NO WAY OF CONTACTING THEM. NO FRONT DESK AFTER 10 PM. Do not stay here!! ||||The view of the lake and the mountains was amazing. There really was nothing else to enjoy. They advertise a beach which does not exist. They advertise water activities, but, there was no equipment to use. If you want to visit any other towns on the lake, it will cost you a minimum Q300 (about $40) each...
Read moreThis hotel is quite an off-the-path little gem. Each room has a beautiful view of the lake and it is very quite. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite with a balcony overlooking the lake. Very attentive staff. We had an ant problem and they came immediately to take are of it! The beauty of this place is because it is so remote. You must private water taxi it to all of the major islands and you have to private water taxi back at night. These taxis can get pricey (especially at night). Also, it states "breakfast included" but it is for 1 person and only fruit and coffee. That is not explained anywhere and we ended up with a bill for breakfasts that was a bit of a surprise. Even thought it was written on our reservation "breakfast included" they did not honor it. In the end, it was a special experience and the staff was very nice. If you want night life or things to do at the hotel, this is not the place. If you want quiet...
