Rancho Fortaleza Atitlan — Hotel in Sololá

My son and I wanted an authentic Guatemalan experience, with peace and relaxation. We got that and so much more. Perched on a cliff overlooking the most beautiful lake in the world, we enjoyed incredible sunsets and sunrises with locally grown coffee everyday. I’ve never slept so well. Yvonne and Jaime were exceptional hosts. We had delicious made-to-order meals every day and enjoyed wonderful day trips to nearby towns as well as daily walks through the coffee and avocado fields just out our door. However, honestly, we just enjoyed simply sitting on the balconies and enjoying the views with Babu and Mia (the owners’ cat and dog who adopted us) every day. We had the most amazing time at Rancho Fortaleza! It was quite & secluded, but still just a tuk tuk ride away into town. Yvonne made us feel like VIP guests the whole time! She welcomed us with fresh watermelon juice, was so attentive, and made the most delicious meals (even accomodating my dairy & gluten allergies). The room was very clean (even the floors), and the bed was soft and comfortable. My boyfriend and I will definitely be staying here again...

This is a tranquil and rustic refuge facing the volcanoes and overlooking Lake Atitlan. It is ideally located for visiting towns around the lake, but some days my father and I just wanted to sit in the rocking chairs on the porch sipping coffee, reading books, and watching the clouds roll past the volcanoes and dissipate...
