LONG BUT PLEASE READ UNTIL THE END! Absolutely disappointing!!!!! A Mike Holmes on Homes reno waiting to happen! Lets start with the good stuff. The staff was very accommodating and the water felt amazing. Now all the bad....We arrived at night, the resort is very dark and has different elevations which are not conducive to individuals who have mobility issues (more lighting to the cabins NEEDED stat!) my mother asked for a gulf cart LOL!! We arrive at the cabins and oh my, my...there's a bed as soon as you enter thru louver doors (yes your front door is louver and there is NO mesh screen, so hello creepy crawlers). The windows in our cabin had no glass only a mesh frame and louver shutter. The bathroom lort yall...I actually asked the staff when was the last time the toilet was cleaned "we freshened up was the response I received". Once again NOT ADA at all, no grab bars and the toilet is about 12 inches from the ground and did I mention it's like brown (I understand I'm Guyana and the water is red/brown but there's filters for that). The shower looks like something from a DIY gone wrong, the shower fixtures are 2 SHUT OFF VALVES to control the water temp. you know the things you find behind a wall or in the basement. The showers head looked like something was growing out of it (we took very short showers). Oh did I mention the junction box is in the shower, please don't splash too much because you will not leave the same way you came. The counter that's over the mini fridge has an weird slope so items will fall off. Now our room wait for it we share an AC unit yep these genius DIYers cut an opening in-between the 2 rooms so you share the AC. Well I'm in a cabin with my parents who are used to the heat since they retired and now living in GT and I'm hot as hell. My AC needs to be 63 they are ok with 70 maybe well that was and experience one day I woke up to my father with a towel on his head cause he was cold but I digress. The bedroom had a good size queen bed but why is the end table under a dressing table (less is more sometimes people take out the excess furniture) now omg guys take you Aleve cause your back, your neck, it's gonna hurt, the mattress is max 4 inches and you feel all the slats under you. Remember you louver window with no glass and louver doors come day 2 that net came in quite handy thanks for that! The towels now yall know hotel towels are the best, soft and just different, well not here! Even though the room was set up to accommodate 5 people you are only given 3 towels and are told you need to request more upon check in. We also requested beach towels well of the 4 that were sent one had a HUGE hole in it and should have been used a s a floor cloth. Now lets talk food once again the staff tried but people, people, people, why is my pizza so sweet and thick ( chef please look up pizza dough recipe even a deep dish isn't that tick)....they put carrots in the red sauce of my pepperoni pizza. My breakfast omelet had bora, carrots and some other local veggies. I appreciate the local veggies but you need to make the customer aware of what is included in the omelet (original and very unexpected). There is no water on the table (breakfast, lunch or dinner), no salad dressing not even a vinaigrette. If there's a large group their isn't enough large cup for your tea/coffee, so you will refill your baby teacup several times. There's no individual servings of anything! The food wasn't horrible. The resort needs to offer child size portions which was non existent. Overall for 120 plus US per night, NO MEALS are include for this price I am extremely disappointed and upset. The cottages/villas/cabins are HORRIBLE they need to be updated/renovated, it was disgusting and I was a little embarrassed, this was my child's and husbands first impression of my homeland and it wasn't a good first impression at all. I didn't expect a rustic camping experience at all (crawling and flying insects included at no charge), that's not what we signed up and paid for, but that's what we received. Also there's no visible emergency medical equipment/supplies (AED) please don't have a medical emergency here. The front desk is NOT 24hrs, guests need to be made aware if this (my son threw up at 11pm and we needed clean linens, towels and a mop but no one answered the phone). I forgot to mention the WIFI was horrible, it worked in the middle of the Lake but not in our cabin. Upon checkout you are held yes held because you cannot leave until your room was inspected, who the hell stealing them towels or anything else from that room. We were told you have to pay for any missing or damaged items before we are allowed to...

I was excited to visit Guyana. Based on the beautiful pictures on the Visit Guyana IG page, I chose Lake Mainstay Resort over Sloth Island.| I’ve camped in the US and enjoyed it very much, so I thought- based on the price - that Mainstay would be a mid level gem.|PROS: The customer service of the staff. In a country where good customer service is non-existent, the staff at Lake Mainstay is on par with the best customer service I have received in all my travels around the world. They are quick to respond; always pleasant; truly friendly and helpful people. |CONS: I’m awake at 4AM writing this review because of the loud barking of dogs directly outside my cabin. They’ve been barking since 2:30AM. Perhaps they’re strays, there’s a lot of strays in and around Guyana 😢.|The food last night was one of the worst meals I’ve ever attempted to eat. The only edible part of the meal was the vegetable chow mein and the dessert - the tiniest cube of fruit cake w/ 1/2 a scoop of ice cream.| The tea was also delicious - but I made that. |For $3,500GUY, the dinner was a disaster of hard overcooked chicken (sweet and sour we were told, as the taste was neither sweet nor sour). And beef stew of some sort. I am grateful I have my own teeth - that level of hardened beef can break through enamel!| We told the server and he was quick to try to help, unfortunately the replacement fish was worse. The saltiest cube of fish was served with a large spotted head of celery leaf atop it. We decided to leave for bed, and hope that breakfast will be an improvement. The chef is definitely not tasting the food before serving the guests.|The real problem is probably the Visit Guyana Instagram account. It sets an unrealistic expectation, as the curated content is not based on any visible reality of the resort. Also the word “resort” should be removed from this business. This is a rustic campground with worn, outdated, tattered furniture and cabins. Other reviewers went in depth on the shower, beds, etc., I should have read the reviews rather than accept Visit Guyana IG content!||Also the prices made me think that the quality would be better- wrong. I cannot think of a campground in the US, charging $95US a night, that would be comparable to this facility- not even the worst camp ground. Also, nothing is included for that price, not even the toll to enter. No shuttle service, not a single entertainment, zero tours, nothing. Even my vacation in Haiti offered free meals and entertainment. |Like much of Guyanese businesses, Lake Mainstay is not interested in creating repeat customers, they are content with the one time visitor. I came through Georgetown and the cost of the taxis and speedboat to get to the location is an additional $95US - I went to Atlantis (one of the best family vacation spots) in the Bahamas for less. |I would not recommend Mainstay Resort, or the IG vacation recommendations. It’s obvious that was a probably a...

This was my first trip to Lake Mainstay. First of all, I must start off by applauding the staff and drivers. Customer service is amazing. Both Mr. Clarke and Mr. Nazim are professional and love their jobs. They are welcoming and friendly. We reached late due to the ferry, and the staff were so helpful along with the drivers that we extended our stay and left on the last ferry back to Parika. The food was delicious, well presented, and tasted as if we were dining at a 5-star restaurant. The juices were fresh and real juice. Had a few varieties. The environment was clean, we stayed in the cheap room but it was set up nicely and clean and well organized. Air conditioner, hot and cold water, and the windows were meshed to keep out mosquitoes and bugs. I highly recommend this place and will return in the future once life is back to normal. Continue doing such a great job. Thank you for treating us like foreigners. Customer service alone made our trip a memorable one. The creek feels so soothing with a slide in the middle. The water was not too warm and not too cold. It was just right. This is a nice place to propose to your soulmate, spend time for your honeymoon, and always ask about their current packages for the best deals. They have a wide variety of money. Our package was an all-inclusive one, so we ate what we were served. The portions were plenty, and the cheesecake was delicious. It tasted like homemade only issue at first the middle was icey but it melted in my mouth afterward, came back to that smooth...

For global standard they charge too much. This places administration is not good at all - unqualified workers, inconsistent responses - one says one thing, another says another. Guests are inconsiderate too. Park cars by blocking others, plays loud music of type others may not like. In the restaurant you order one thing get something else etc. lake small with black water - black from years of rotten leaves - test the water for your skin first to see if it will give you hives or not About good things - you can order wild meat for high price but it is available - like Laba, Eguanna which are banned in most other places.

The allure of this hotel is its novelty of having lake mainstay, a black water lake with sandy shores and lake bed. The journey of getting to this hotel is in itself and adventure, especially crossing the Essequibo River. I stayed in a single room, it was average, but had the neccessaries, a bed, shower and washroom with 110 power outlets. The service is good, staff is friendly and the food options are good, prices are commensurate with hotel prices generally. It is about 15-20 minutes drive from Anna Regina, transport to and from is easily obtained, prices can be negotiated. The lake water is warm.
