This was actually a few years ago...||||A last minute decision to travel from Budapest to Bonyhad on Friday evening left me in Bonyhad very early Saturday morning with nowhere to stay. Ringing the bell, I woke the attendant- thankfully my rudimentary German allowed me to make my need known and I was shown directly to a comfortable room. Amazingly, seeing my obvious fatigue, he said we could take care of checking in later. After a comfortable and restful night's sleep, I wandered down- frankly a bit worried that I could face a stiff rate for a room with no reservation- and was pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable rate. I had a thoroughly enjoyable breakfast before setting off on my Saturday's activities. When I found myself wanting to extend my stay in this wonderful town, I again presented myself at the hotel. The clerk- not anyone I had interacted with before- was actually aware of my previous night's stay and welcomed me- even ap0logizing that the room I had had the night before was not available. Another second wonderful night and another wonderful breakfast. Hotel Rittinger really exemplified the concept of hospitality, and the hotel and its staff is an integral part of my fond memory of my all too short...
Read moreThe hotel site says it is a 3-star place. We had a reservation for 1 night incl. breakfast. We arrived at around 7pm, the front door table said it had been closed. We rang the reception and the restaurant. Few minutes later someone came and showed a room, which was on the first floor (no elevator, no luggage transport, cold and bare corridors). The guy said no service at this time (7pm), restaurant is closed, no bars but a filling station is nearby… I pretty sorry for not taking photos of the room. Very outdated, tired furniture, it was like my university college room. Do not get me wrong: I am not a snobbish guy, I can sleep in a camp site but this awful place for HUF 13,000 per night and claimed it was a three-star? Nonsense. The bed was 20-year old but still okay, the room size was about 7-8sq m and it was dirty. No internet, no wifi, no minibar, no reading lamps… The breakfast was real catastrophic. I am “socialized” by Scandinavian/German/US coffees since I travel a lot but what they served as espresso was undrinkable. No service, waiter did not pay any attention. They food and soft drinks were okay. I...
Read moreCheap and basic.||Attention from staff varied. Excellent welcome but blanked at breakfast which incidentally was a very limited choice.||I asked for something to eat on arrival and eventually convinced the staff (at 8pm) that I really was hungry!||Preparation for a wedding the following day was clearly a priority and my one night stay wasn't.||Large room, clean but tired and dated. Bathroom was clean but ancient.||Location not ideal as by a very busy road. ||It was 35 degrees when I visited and no air con or even fans. It was a toss up between mozza bites or some fresh air with accompanying traffic noise.||I wouldn't return as I'm used to something bit more 1st world but then that's reflected in the price. As they say, you pays you're money......lesson learned for...
