What a fantastic resort for a memorable family holiday!
Where to start. Resort in a little village just a couple miles from Balaton. All local amenities within a reasonable distance. Plenty things to do if you want to venture into rural Hungary.
Booking, amazingly easy directly through the hotel. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable, forthcoming, friendly and professional. Check in, quick and covers all the essentials.
Room, we had the family room and that was much bigger than expected and clean and tidy like we have never seen anywhere else. You have everything a family with two small children needs. High chair, pram, mini fridge, small bathtub with a shelf in the bathroom where to put it with its own showerhead. The kids room with plenty space, three beds, one of them a bunk bed for bigger kids. Bean bag and a hippo shaped stool. Ample storage for toys and clothing. Baby cot included for the smaller kids. Back to the barhroom. Clean, spaceous, well equipped. Everything there one needs and a few extras, such as two built in dryer hangers. Shower big and clean. Toilet with a potty and a child seat.
Talking about cleanliness, wow, mad respect to the housekeeping ladies and the staff in general. Everybody with a big smile on their face and the best of the hotel on their minds. Everything was spotless. Every day twice a day kids facilities were cleaned. Not a speck of dust anywhere. You could well eat off the floor. Housekeeping ladies worked as a team helping eachother out, what a team that must be!
Bedroom, spaceous with all you need. Nothing fancy yet fitted with good quality furniture. This is obvious throughout the hotel. Great materials, full of funky ideas for the little ones. No amount of describing will do it enough justice.
Restaurant, amazing, hats off to the staff in the kitchen and on the floor. Most of them speak either German or English. All of them with a smile and ready to help. Food, what a treat. Oh my, amazing, well ballanced local food sourced based on availability. Bits and pieces to satisfy international cuisine, but mainly local and fantastically prepared. Fresh locally grown fruit and veg, locally reared meats, always fresh and beautifully presented. Deserts to anyones liking. Classic and with modern twist.
Facilities, everything for the little ones and a little more. What you want from a family resort and that little extra. What we expected with a few surprises. The kids club with a mascot, teachers spending time with kids big and small, indoor and outdoor play areas, soft play, pools indoor and out, saunas for kids and big ones, no one ever said a peep when the wee ones had all sorts of questions in the sauna or wanted to go and play with the ice machine. My theory is the ice machine was put there specifically for the little ones to play with. The spa for grownups almost always empty, so if you leave your child in the club, it's a well deserved oasis of peace and quiet. My wife booked a massage and she could not be happier afterwards. The hair salon was well received with reasonable prices. Gym, a bit crammed and lacked a set of kettlebells would be great. Still, with a little fantasy you can put a decent workout in.
All in all, the best holiday so far. Nowhere in the UK, neither hotels and spa resorts that claim they are family friendly - they have no idea how this is done.
Thank you to everyone at the Kolping Hotel!

Read moreThis was our third time, and I can safely say, not our last. This time we brought 1 set of grandparents and even they had a great time. The rooms was spotless, plenty of storage and all you could possibly need when travelling with kids (from tiny babies to teens). The grounds are beautiful, all in bloom and very well kept. The hotel was pretty full but you only feel it at certain times, mainly during meals. We really enjoyed lounging by the pool. My boys participated in challenges, competitions and activities and collected loads of Bobo money :) The food was amazing, as always! I love how only local and seasonal ingredients are used. My absolute favourites are the sauna infusions. I took part in all of them and really enjoyed them, even grandma gave it a fair go. The healing pool in the quiet zone was a nice little escape, too. We had such a good time that we barely left the resort (to show the grandparents Kesthely). We only used the free entry to Bobo fun park once. On our last visit we got 1 full day entry with all attractions, this time it was daily 4-hour sessions but the climbing was excluded from the ticket. You can buy that for extra 3000 FT. The boys loved the trampoline/video game the most. We also had a birthday cake brought to us by Bobo himself! My 7-year old loved it. It can feel a bit overwhelming with the whole restaurant watching and all kids aged 5 and under in Bobo's tail so keep that in mind if your kids are shy :) It was worth the experience. The staff is very nice, everyone is very polite, the cleaning ladies always greet the guests... I can't fault this place at all!!! Just miss a cold plunge after a...
Read moreWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at Kolping Hotel! This is, by far, the most child-friendly place we have ever visited, both in Hungary and abroad. The staff are exceptionally kind and attentive, especially at the reception and in the restaurant, where we always felt warmly welcomed. What truly sets Kolping Hotel apart is how genuinely focused they are on families, especially those with several children. Every detail is designed with kids in mind—not just in name, but in real solutions and attitude. Nowhere else have we found such a high level of comfort for large families, where parents can truly relax without constantly worrying about their children. Here, you can let the kids explore both indoors and outdoors, always knowing they are safe and having fun. The hotel is not cheap, but the value you receive is absolutely worth it. The included Bobo Funpark entry was a fantastic bonus—our three children, from our youngest (just under 1 year old) to our 6-year-old, loved every minute! If you’re looking for a place where families, especially big ones, can truly unwind, Kolping Hotel is unbeatable. Highly...
