This hotel came very highly recommended so we expected a lot unfortunately it did not live up to them.||||The building is lovely outside & there are some nice features inside - as the building was dilapidated when it was taken on they have done a good job transforming the place & bringing it back to life.||||The location is very peaceful & beautiful, the gardens are nice & the facilities are good with plenty of things to do like the spa, sauna, indoor & outdoor pool & tennis etc. Having an escape game in the hotel is a great idea although there is not too much to solve in the room so would not appeal to the experienced player.||||My wife informed the hotel this was our honeymoon, it would have been nice to have received a bottle of wine/flowers or chocolates which from friends I have spoken to is a pretty standard thing to receive.||||The room was a decent size & the bed was very comfortable, there was a water stain on one of the tiles in the bathroom that should have been replaced or at the least painted over, Be warned the hot water in the baths get extremely hot very quickly.||||Basic things like having somewhere to hang the shower head in the bath would have been nice as would having some paper & a pen provided in the room - standard in all hotels I have stayed in. ||||The hotel map which we requested in English had information on it in Hungarian which I found strange. The reception staff did not speak English (the ones we spoke to) my wife is Hungarian so this did not matter but may matter to some. One of the staff in the restaurant heard me speaking so spoke in English which was nice - the food in the restaurant was very nice but some of the chairs urgently need repairing as they wobbled badly & needed cosmetic repairs. ||||We could not find out the cost of having clothes ironed from reception - I would expect a price list to very nice hotel but for me be available.||||There is a light show in the grounds of the hotel - the music was quite nice but we both thought the show was very poor. ||||If there was a little more attention to detail this could be a nice hotel. All in all for the price of the stay we expected more especially as there is much better service available in Hungary at a similar if not...
Read moreNice looking hotel, room was spacey and clean, some places could use some touchups like the entertainment and the spa/pool areas. The bar/entertainment area closed pretty early, looked a bit messy and staff was not always attending it (we were there mid-week but hey - it's a resort). Overall we had a nice experience.
The reason for the 4-star review is the food, we asked before booking on if the restaurant could accommodate a vegan diet, and to our surprise and excitement they stated that it wouldn't be a problem and we should just mention it while booking. Not expecting a lot of options but at least a complete meal per day and something for breakfast, aside from the first day where they had cooked up some basic vegan patties, there were only overcooked vegetables and sides, and one dish contained cheese despite not being marked with the allergen symbol for dairy (that could've gone horribly wrong). The breakfast was even more lackluster. Thankfully we had brought a lot of snacks and we could order cheeseless pizza from the outdoor pool grill which was good, albeit costing us extra. In hindsight we should have asked more questions in advance and done more research. We believe they tried to accommodate but just lacked knowledge, in which case we would have preferred that they had instead informed us that it's possible but very limited and standards...
Read moreI was very lucky to be there during the holiday times when it was snowing. It was amazing and a unique experience to stay in a historical castle and hike the surrounding area in a beautiful snowy weather. Well equipped spa, comfortable room and great food with very nice wine menu. I do not like to eat all you can eat food but this was the first time when I found the (“Swedish Table” in EU) the dinner close to high end restaurant’s quality. The restaurant makes food with locally sourced ingredients. First of all I had one of the best tasting blue cheese in my life especially with the combination of the rose wine I was having. I had delicately cooked fish with honey where the top was crispy but it was not dry at all it was cooked nicely with a slightly even moist meat. The carrots with thyme was so simply but packed so much flavor I could not stop eating it next to my white wine which beautifully complemented again the food I was eating. The desert again wasn’t anything fancy but it was an excellent way to wrap up the dinner. I will definitely go back whenever I can. Highly recommended for someone who likes hiking, relaxing in a spa, great...
