I stayed in this hotel for two nights on business as my usual hotel the Veronika was full. Prior to this I had never stayed here before however I had been warned against it on previous occasions, now I can fully understand why.....||I arrived at around 7pm after two flights and a long drive from Budapest. Following check in I asked if the hotel restaurant was open, to which I was told no. How about the bar? No. I then asked if there was anywhere nearby that was walkable to which I again was told no. Great start, with no food available anywhere (aside from the local Tesco a five minute drive away which I didn't bother with as I had enough of travel for one day) I went to bed. I subsequently found out the following day there is an Italian barely five minutes walk from the hotel.||After walking through the soulless, very unwelcoming reception area (I doubt any part of the hotel has had any decoration in the last 30 years) I took the lift (noisy and clattery) up to my room which was a sight to behold. The carpets were very old, worn and stained, all the furniture was at least 30 years old (and very well worn again), the bathroom light would not work, the toilet would not flush properly (meaning there was always a pungent smell in the room) and the blankets on the bed I initially thought were curtains as they were almost see through!||After waking up especially hungry the following morning having not eaten the night before I was hoping for a delicious breakfast, however it consisted of a poor quality continental buffet (bread, jam, hot dogs and scrambled eggs).||I returned to the hotel that evening and found that the bed had not been made and the towels hadn't been replaced from the day before, I thought about complaining however by that point I had lost the will to live.||After another invigorating breakfast the following morning I was delighted to check - out and leave.||A hilarious point worth noting, on the main page of the hotel's website it states 'preferred by businessmen', I would like to re - phrase that to 'you would only bring your family here if you really hated them and you would only stay here on business if the Veronika is fully booked'. In addition, this is absolutely NOT a three star hotel, by UK standards this is about he standard of a 1 star Etap hotel. If this is a genuine three star by Hungarian standards I would love to see what a two or one star hotel is like.||Personally I don't believe that any amount of renovation can save this hotel, it needs pulling down and re - building from scratch.||As soon as I got home I put all my clothes etc I took with me into the washing machine for a long wash in case I had brought any little friends (bed bugs etc) home with me. It wouldn't have been a surprise!||This is perfect hotel you would visit to commit suicide. I certainly felt like ending it on a few occasions during my visit!||In future, when I travel to Tiszaujvaros, I will base my travel on the availability of a room at the Veronika. If it is full, I shall move the dates of my trip to suit. I will never in a month of Sundays stay at this...
Read moreMust say that the building is a real relic from “communism years” from in- and outside and must be renovated. Now I would even say that this is dormitory, not a hotel and with barely 2 stars. The carpets in the hall on the floor were old and stained by bleach, old furniture from the 90s windows with paint spots, old curtains and dying plants. My room little bit better, at least with freezer, new window and warm, but damaged cabinet without hangers and worn again, no cover blankets on the bed, so I cover it by my towel, as there wasn`t other option to seat, as only chair for double room was used as a table for laptoз. Huge old TV from 90s on the table, so I put a laptop on the chair. I do not know the last time when room was cleaned, but a pile of dust was on the bedside lamps, on a towel dryer, radiator and under the bed were visible balls of twisted spiderweb and dust. The bath had a persistent odor of bleach, but without air extractor. After waking up I was hoping for a delicious breakfast, however it consisted of a poor quality continental buffet bread, jam, hot dogs and there were no even eggs and I come in the opening time!
But there was one thing which I`m very liked - panoramic view...
