Hotel Halond — Hotel in Akureyrarbær

This was our first time staying at a hotel with no staff on site. We booked through a third-party service and didn’t receive a check-in code in our email as stated, so I called for it upon arrival—no problem. The facility is very new and overall quite clean. When we got to our room, we were going to check out the sleeper sofa—the sheet had not been cleaned. There were chip crumbs and tomato sauce of some sort. I called to notify the staff, and we were moved to a new room. In the new room, I opened the sleeper sofa and while it was in much better condition, I’m not positive it was changed since its last use either. Everything else seemed very clean. We used the hot tub 👍🏼 By the way, some older reviews state that no hair dryers are provided, but both of our rooms had them available, so it seems as though they have been added to the rooms. First we booked this hotel 1 month prior. Came to the hotel at 930pm. Expecting a reception with a name hotel halond. It’s not a hotel. It’s self check in and out. Looking thru my emails for a check in email…. Nothing. Panicking as it’s 930 and 70/km winds trying to find a number or staff cannot find nothing google the number for hotel halond. Finally get thru and someone gives us access codes and room number. After and hour of scrambling. Rooms are nice and modern, bathrooms are nice. Found the room to be extremely hot. 24 degrees in the room it was set at 18. Couldn’t set it any lower. Had to open patio door with 70km/hr winds to cool it down to try and sleep. Woke up in morning at 8am to our door which we had locked to someone opening it and it being left open. Booked a room and hours late, still no code sent. After arrival, waited over an hour to get a code. The sign on theor door and on the website said no help is available via phone so email, yet no timely response to emails. Then finally a response via the booking site and they say they never received any email from me despite finally receiving an answer to my email over an hour later. Rooms advertised with a sofa bed, so got ready to sleep in someone else's room (since I couldnt get a code for my room) yet no sheets or duvet or blankets for the sofa bed. Booked a room to include breakfast yet get told after booking and paying, no breakfast is available as it was past the 4pm order time. Shower is really slippery. Nice large room but honestly, won't ever book again because zero timely or quick help when needed and when they finally respond, they act like it was...
