Review ||Had a fabulous time at Aurora lodge. Fantastic location for visiting the the south coast waterfalls, glaciers and black beach, horse riding at the Hestheimar. Easy to get to Golden Circle. Close to a supermarket and couple of restaurants. There are a number of self service petrol stations along the way. ||The lodge itself has ovely cosy feel. Nice relaxing areas with great views. 2 hot tubs with choice of temperature. Views over Hekla volcano. ||Rooms are a decent size. Comfy beds, the room is clean and warm. Toiletries and kettle provided. (Only one tea and coffee though. Sure I could have asked for more but I felt awkward. Just wish they would put a few out) ||Breakfast was lovely. Cereals, breads, pastries, pancakes, yoghurts, jams, bacon, sausage, egg and beans. Tea, coffee and fruit juice. ||I really really enjoyed my time here the staff are lovely. I have two issues for feedback and they are NOT complaints. The road to the lodge is about a mile on a dirt track. In the dark you had to go very slowly for potholes. I was probably being extra careful as in a hire car. ||Secondly I booked way in advance and asked if I could guarantee a room with a north facing view (I was willing to pay) I was told there were no rooms specifically facing north all rooms would have good view of the Aurora if it were to appear. On arrival there were many rooms that were facing north and by then all were full. The Aurora did appear but too many lights on the cabin doors that spoil a weak display and make it hard to see. I ended up sat at the side of my lodge to see the Aurora with a coat over the light to try and darken the area I was in. ||Overall fantastic stay and I will return! |Had a fabulous time at Aurora lodge. My husband and I stayed at Aurora Lodge early December for 6 night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! I would echo a lot of the comments made by fellow people who have stayed and left a review on this accommodation! Our stay was great, rooms are cosy and just the space we needed for our stay, as we visited during the Winter season we weren’t sure how we’d find the climate however rest assured we couldn’t have been happier, the room has a very good heating system which was kept on 24/7 therefore it was lovely walking into our room to hear from minus degrees outside. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom albeit small but clean and geothermal water was fantastic and again very warm temperature- just what we needed!

The staff at the lodge were very inviting, approachable and friendly throughout the duration of our stay! The lobby / lounge area is spacious and we often sat there to relax, after a busy day of site seeing, it was lovely to have a fireplace and enough sofa lounge space to relax without feeling like you were intruding others. The breakfast had a varied spread and for the 6 nights we stayed we were very pleased with the service and options available!

If I was to be very picky and provide some feedback it would be ideal to have a basic mirror in the bedroom somewhere on the wall to help people staying get ready as sometimes became little frustrating when I needed a mirror to get ready whilst my husband was in the bathroom. A small basic tv could have also been handy but not mandatory as we did manage without.

Overall, a great stay in a very ideal location when travelling around south coast of Iceland!!! I’d highly recommend to family...

Aurora LoVge is an authentic hidden gem if you are traveling the South Coast!

Since the moment I arrived, I felt that I was treated like a Princess (it is not nowadays easy to find places who are taking care personally of their guests like Aurora does).

I was checked in by Guisita, who gave me the warmest welcome ever. She showed me the facilities and explained everything about the Northern Lights. *Do not miss the cocktails that she is creating, they are amazing.

The room is well equipped with everything that you need. Provided with the expensive Icelandic brand “Sóley” shampoo and shower gel. You will find as well bathrobes for your personal use (yes, they do have 2 hot tubs perfect to relax and watch the northern lights). The bed is extra comfortable.

The next morning I had the best breakfast possible. I do think that the person who is making the home made pancakes deserves at least, a Michelin pancake star.

On my last day, since the restaurant was open a la carte (note that only sometimes they are open). The food was perfectly well balanced and well presented. Not pricy at all. I would recommend to eat here without hesitation. My waitress (Chulita) was very kind and professional.

If I am coming back to Iceland, definitely I will stay in...

Even though I am an avid angler I am rating this based upon our one night stay as a traveling tourist couple. I found the room on the smaller side however more than adequate. The bathroom was fine however watch the small step dropping down into the bathroom. Shower was the most spacious I have seen in Iceland with good water pressure. The beds were comfortable but pillows super fluffy. I like medium however they sufficed. We tried to go to sleep at 10 pm but couldn’t as the walls are thin and ruckus talking and laughter were coming from adjacent units. Walls are thin here. Noise quieted up by 11 am. Breakfast was worst of the trip so far. Limited selection. At 8 am the eggs were cold and bacon run out. I should also note the plug ins are poorly placed. Two behind the bed pillows do not practical charging at night and one in the bathroom. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Area around is beautiful. Would be a good place for bird watchers as well as anglers. In a pinch for a night I would come here again. It was okay.

Beautiful location with an amazing restaurant. Sadly it was closed our second night but the first night we had it was great. The breakfast too was exceptional. The hot tubs were so great after a long cold day and a lot of places in Iceland will charge you for hot tub use but not here which made it feel more special. We stayed in Reykjavík after and just missed this place the whole time! The manager there was so kind and helpful too, almost felt like a stay away camp.
