This guesthouse is in the middle of nowhere about a 30 minute drive from Hvammstangi, 20 minutes of which is on a rough dirt road leading south from hwy 1. Rather an inconvenient location for a one night stay but this is where our tour guide booked us through Iceland Tours and the Iceland Complete Tour. He didn't personalize like we asked. We had specifically asked for rooms within town and walking distance of food choices for dinner. ||||Our room in the basement was oddly furnished, with heated floors and facing the back fields of the horse farm. We had two cot-type beds end-to-end along one wall, an old wicker and glass coffee table, one night table, a small wardrobe and a tired Black daybed/futon-type 'sofa'. Also, we were told none of the rooms have locks on the door. That bothered us a bit so we kept a close eye on things. Also, the walls are thin, at least in the basement rooms.||||No WiFi in the room but available in the common areas. We were "encouraged" by the owner to use the WiFi in the common room to "mingle" with the other guests. Really? |||| It would have been nice to have a kettle and coffee supplies in the room. There was coffee and tea in the common room and when we checked in we were told it was available if we wanted it during the evening. However when my traveling companion went to get her tea, she was greeted by the owner and asked what she was doing? Uncomfortable, since we were told it was available. ||||The restaurant was not open, per se, the owner said her chef was unavailable and if we wanted dinner we would have to decide then and there at check in. She was offering to make fish stew. Since we would have had to drive about 30K into town over much dirt roads and I wanted wine, we really had no choice but to opt for the stew. A number of other guests did the same. She did a great job. The stew was fine washed down with a good red wine. No dessert. ||||After dinner Sue and I took a walk around the fields and down to the river to work off some energy from sitting in the car for the day. The grounds are beautiful, just too far out of the way. The owner has over 90 horses on their abundant acreage.||||Breakfast was the normal fare, but not enough for the guests present. For example, there was a small bowl of fresh fruit salad, yet we didn't want to take more than a tablespoon because there just wasn't enough for...

I would describe the guesthouse as rustic, with a horse motif going on throughout. Leo, the guesthouse' dog, greeted us at the entrance and the owner was very pleasant and chatted with us when we arrived.
No key was given for our room, which we found a bit odd. We were told that because this was Iceland we don't need to worry about locking our doors. Problem is, I trust the Icelanders but not sure if I trust all travellers. We ended up taking our valuables with us when we left the room.
The room we stayed in had a private bathroom but lacked any counter space for our toiletries. The shower was particularly troublesome, we couldn't get it to stay at one temperature for more than 30 seconds at a time. There was also no bodywash or shampoo provided. The shower curtain let a lot of water onto the floor and there was no bath mat to wipe it up with. The fan also didn't work which caused the steam to fog up our rooms windows,
There was no TV in the room, but luckily we had a good showing of the Aurora by looking out our window. The floors were heated which made the room comfortable. The beds and linens were decent.
Wifi only works on the main floor, and with no TV in the room, you might get a bit bored if you plan to stay in your room in the evening.
Breakfast options were a bit sparse (no Skyr here) but they did give my wife some gluten free crackers for her allergy.
Overall I'm a bit torn on this place, I wanted to like it for its charm and pleasant owner but the problems we had with the bathroom and wifi make it tough to recommend unless you really love the...

Rather an inconvenient location for a one night stay. Our room was oddly furnished, though comfortable enough. We had two cot-type beds end-to-end along one wall, an old wicker and glass coffee table, one night table, a small wardrobe and a tired daybed/futon-type 'sofa'. No WiFi in the room but available in the common areas. No TV which was fine. It would have been nice to have a kettle and coffee supplies in the room since one could hardly walk across the street to a Starbucks. The restaurant was not open yet for the season. Knowing this, we had dinner in Hvammstangi. BTW the Sjavarborg restaurant (above the Seal Museum in Hvammstangi) is excellent!! (and reasonably priced for Iceland.) Breakfast was the normal fare and quite adequate to start the day. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the shower was good, and the...
