Terrible service at Fosshotel Eastfjords
I don’t usually write negative reviews, but as a tour operator who lives in Iceland and regularly organizes trips around the country, I feel compelled to share my recent experience. I spent over 4000 EUR for one night at Fosshotel Eastfjords for a group of 10, and the service we received was simply unacceptable.
The main issue was with the service in the restaurant, particularly from one waiter with dyed blond hair. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that we were not going to receive the level of service one would expect from a hotel of this standard. Despite having a group of 10, we were told that the tables couldn’t be put together, with a simple “no, no space” as the only explanation. Throughout the evening, every time we wanted a drink, we were made to get up and go to the bar ourselves—something I’ve never experienced before in any hotel of this caliber.
When we asked if we could have one meal boxed for a guest who couldn’t make it to dinner, the request was bluntly denied without any explanation. Every interaction with the waiter was met with curt “yes” or “no” responses and disinterested side glances. However, when two attractive girls entered the restaurant, the same waiter suddenly became all smiles and extremely attentive, which only highlighted the dismissive service we received.
As someone who works in tourism, I can’t help but feel that the poor service was racially motivated. My group was predominantly Asian, and it seemed as though the waiter had preconceived stereotypes, leading to a less-than-welcoming experience. This kind of behavior is not only unprofessional but deeply disappointing, especially in a country that prides itself on hospitality.
On a positive note, Borja and Tatàna at the reception were very good, and their professionalism was appreciated. However, the overall experience left a sour taste, and I cannot recommend Fosshotel Eastfjords to anyone looking for quality service, especially if you expect to be treated with respect...
Read moreThe most disappointing hotel on our trip... We did book well in advance and as I am a bit senstive to noise asked for a quiet room. What we got was a ground floor room (206) where the window was few steps away from the street and in the building where the restaurant is located... |The worst, however, was that the bed was right above a ventilation system in one of the rooms below. When lying in bed, there was this constant droning and slight vibration feeling. |I went to the reception to check with them and was first very pleased as the receptionist was eager to help and sort this out. She even came with me to check outside where I did show her the ventilation "tube" underneath the room. But she reassured me that the noise can only be from the laundry in the small building few steps away from our room as there is no ventilation going on below our room. I was happy to hear that the laundry will be closed by 9.30pm. |Unfortunately, it was not the laundry as the droning continued throughout the night... Clearly there is an active ventilation system (kitchen?) right underneath this room, exactly where the bed is located! As the reception was not occupied the next morning we weren't even able to clear things up. |In combination with the hardest bed I have ever had to sleep in, the night was frankly just horrible! |I am certain that there are rooms that are a lot quieter and if we would have been able to stay in a quiet room the overall experience would have been better. A great pity that this was...

This place had it all and then some!!We did an 11-day tour of Iceland and were fortunate enough to stay 3 WONDERFUL nights at Fosshotel Austfirdir in Faskrudsfjordur. The ENTIRE staff were friendly, knowledgeable and always had a smile. One could tell they were exceptionally trained. The room was so clean and comfortable with an INCREDIBLE ocean view. The food at the restaurant was high quality and so yummy! The breakfast was hot and had plenty of choices for everyone. The Manager, Freyja, was so hospitable making sure all of her guests had all info needed for every excursion you could possibly imagine. Her vast knowledge of the history and best places to go in all of Iceland was beyond invaluable and so greatly appreciated. (While the other Fosshotels we stayed in on our travel were great, none whatsoever could compare to the atmosphere at this location!) Freyja was ever present for all of her guests and I did not see this anywhere else we stayed including Icelandair Hotels. We didn’t want to leave but will be back very soon with the entire family, and plan to spread our experience at this magnificent locale all across Texas!! Many Thanks and see you soon!!Reba Foster & Debra...
