This guesthouse is a bit off the beaten track, about 20 minutes outside Thorshofn and off the main road on a road that looks as if it leads to nowhere, but actually goes to a pretty, hidden valley. The guesthouse doesn't look very special as you drive up, although the cottages, up the hill, must have amazing views. As we arrived, we met a guest sitting in the yard near the greenhouse, looking utterly relaxed. She made us feel we had come to the right place. We sat for about half an hour comfortably in the pleasant sitting room, reading. Our host and hostess arrived soon afterwards from their errands in town, and showed us to our room, down a few steps in the main house. It was so comfortable and beautifully done for such a small space that later I asked Hildur, the owner, if she had had some sort of arts training. In fact, like many Icelanders, she had studied in Sweden (Iceland is too small to have much specialty training), landscape architecture, and had been able to put her artistic eye to use in this remote environment but where there is a family connection and farm. Her husband is a talented carpenter and had built much of what we see himself. ||||Breakfast was for only a few people, but really good. The owners gave us some good advice about the region and we had only good experiences in Thorshofn. I would definitely stay here again!...
Read moreWe booked last minute and we are so happy we did. This might be the best guesthouse we stayed at on this trip. It is very remote but it somehow feels like home. We stayed here in November so we had the whole place to ourselves. I hear they are already booked for the high season and I’m happy to hear it, they deserve the business. The owners, who are husband and wife, are very friendly and welcoming. We had great conversations with the woman of the house. The room was clean and very cosy. Breakfast is included with your stay. They provide you with juice, coffee, tea, fruits, vegetables, warm homemade bread and a variety of meats and cheeses. There are dogs on the property who are extremely friendly and cuddly. They also sell some handmade goods from the neighbouring houses such as wool sweaters, gloves, soaps and candles. I have nothing negative to say about this guesthouse and I will definitely come back again next time i’m in...
Read moreWonderful surprice. Did not expect such quality when staying in such a rural and remote area in Iceland. The closest town is Thorshofn where we went to have dinner (15 min driving time) We had a lovely room in the main building. The bed sheets were icelandic design of high quality. In our bathroom there was a beautiful bathtub and they provided bubble bath and candles (and also lighter). Breakfast one of the best I had during this domestic travel of mine, i stayed in various places for almost a week. Home baked bread and american pancakes. Home made pesto (i would like to have the recipe please). And of course coffee and good selection of teas. Loved the idea of a “honest bar” even though we did not use it. If I were travelling again in these part I would definatly stay again...
