We stayed at Hafdals guesthouse one night while we were in Akureyri. It is a new guesthouse with several modern rooms on the lower level. The friendly owner checked us in quickly and showed us how to use the key and operate the patio door.

The views from this guesthouse are amazing! It sits on a hill overlooking Akureyri. It gave us an amazing sunset view over the city. The breakfast area on the upper level has full glass windows that highlight the view too. It's about a 5 min drive into the city.

A coffee pod machine and fridge were available in the room. Shampoo and body wash were provided and there was ample space around the sink for our toiletries. The shower was excellent and the hot water didn't even have the sulphur smell.

The included breakfast was pretty typical for a guesthouse but had a good variety and quantity of items. Skyr cups were available along with milk, cereals, hard boiled eggs, cheese, meat, bread, fruit and pancakes.

My only quibble is that the rooms could use a bit more privacy with the shared walkway out in front. Adding shear blinds along with the blackout curtains would help.

Otherwise this place is among the best places I've ever stayed. Highly...

We booked this hotel for three nights the last weekend of August . We had read all the marvellous reviews and of how nice the owner was, but the hotel and owner far exceeded our expectations. The hotel website does not do justice to how spectacular and lovely the hotel is , it’s actually also very contemporary and the finishing’s are of very high quality . The owners have put a lot of thought and love into designing this hotel for the comfort of their guests. The walls are all soundproofed so u don’t hear a thing, the rooms are of a really good size which is very rare in Iceland . The rooms are immaculately clean and very comfortable with a quality mattress for a good nights sleep . We never stayed up to see the Northern lights but the other guests did , just sat on their balconies about midnight and said it was amazing. Buffet breakfast was excellent and what a view . The area of the hotel is beautiful worth the short drive over it’s like the Beverly Hills of Akureyri . We will definitely be returning especially now that a winter direct flight path has opened up from Manchester...

This hotel is absolutely amazing. We have had the best experience here. It is cozy and modern but not out of place. The hotel is about 5-10 minutes away from downtown Akureyri making it a perfect distance to be close to amenities, while also being private enough to get away from it all. The guesthouse is open year-round, so you can take advantage of ski season, whale-watching, puffin tours, sailing, hiking, biking, or just plain relaxing to enjoy the local atmosphere. It's also SO easy to get about anywhere in North Iceland, with quick access to neighboring fjords, parks, and points-of-interest. The owners are literally the nicest, most genuine people you will meet anywhere, and have built the perfect refuge for travelers near and far. You'll feel truly welcomed like family. I will be recommending Hafdals Gistiheimili to everyone that wishes to visit Iceland. The views from the room are nothing short of breathtaking. Do not waste your time with any other accomodations,...

This hotel looks better in person than in the pictures. The rooms are modern and spotlessly clean. Hardwood floors and a balcony access. Breakfast is modest but had hardboiled eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, bread, deli meats and cheese, and croissants. The hotel owner is a kind gentleman and very attentive. This is a good hotel option slightly outside of Akureyri which affords more nature and incredible views. I attempted to capture the northern lights but a large cloud blocked the view, however the northern lights were indeed visible over the water and with the city backdrop. Highly recommend this as an alternative to the main town and if you need a good parking facility.
