Hellatún Guest House! — Hotel in Iceland

In summary: Not worth the price + a deceitful owner.

Positives: During our stay, the owner was very helpful, friendly and responsive, the views are outstanding and the apartment's aesthetic is lovely

Why the 1 star review: Despite plenty of positives, we are so disappointed to have to leave a review much more negative than we hoped because the owner simply refused to acknowledge the issues we had during our stay. Despite numerous very pleasant and balanced messages, she ignored them all and when we then left a review sharing this on the booking site, she managed to get it marked as spam and removed. I wonder how many others she has done the same to.

What were our issues? The apartment is simply uncared for. It hasn’t had a deep clean in years, and it really shows. For the price you pay, you don’t expect grime throughout the bathroom, feet to get dirty if walking around barefoot, other people’s rubbish still left under eg. The sofa, Netflix not to be present despite being promised, painful mattress due to likely being very worn out, freezer’s ice cube machine not working and many more.

So many of these things are fixable, but the owner doesn’t seem to care, and instead seemingly does all she can to just remove the negative reviews.

For the price this place is, you can do so much better for you hard...

Stayed for one night in June with my family. After seeing sights along the golden circle, we arrived very late at the guest house. The host was very communicative and helpful, answering my questions and making sure that I was safe and settled. The guest house is slightly below the main house, far enough for privacy, but close enough that I did not feel isolated. The guesthouse was split into two halves, each which were separate units. The back of the guest house had a large attached deck, overlooking large open fields. There was a large privacy wall between the two units, which was nice. The deck had a grill, clothes line, as well as a good sized hot tub. The guesthouse had a nice sized main living room, 2 bedrooms, as well as a nicely finished bathroom. The kitchen was also larger than others I found through iceland, with a clothes washing machine in the area as well. Beds were comfortable, the place was clean, and there was also some supplies/condiments and basics for around the house/kitchen if you wanted to cook. We knew exactly how to find that accommodation as well as the key code to get in, both in advance. The owner was just leaving as we arrived at the accommodation, she kindly let us have the apartment next door as well as the one we had booked as it was free for the duration of our stay. The apartment was like an ikea showroom! the interiors were very modern and it was very homely. There were already some groceries in the kitchen to use should we have needed, and also some toiletries in the bathroom. The hot tub in the garden was my favourite part, spent a good few hours in that whilst watching the sunset with a glass of wine. Netflix was also a nice touch.||The cottage was literally in the middle of a field with one other building, it was beautiful, there was no interruption. All places of interest were a short drive away, the first being a short 30minute drive. The cottage was a great place to be based at. A shop was at the end of the road, and also a supermarket a 10minute drive away. ||I would gladly stay in this cottage again when I come back to...
