We were here with my wife 20 years back in 2003 and we came came with our two children We were here with my wife 20 years back in 2003 and we came came with our two children in 2023. What change in facilities! 20 years back also in July there were five times more tourists many of which came by bike, much more tents (including ours) and cooking facility like in old days camping. I am not sure it is better now, but different. More comfortable cabin with shared shower. Much quieter and less people, though the road to the place is now much better than used to be. What has not changed a bit - outstanding hot springs and the nature itself. We liked the lodge. It has everything you need. Tiny but comfortable rooms with bunk bed. Shared shower and toilets are clean and functioning properly. You have to book the lodge in advance (I booked it in April for July) directly with them, no agents. There is small library if you fancy to read. You will have to take off your shoes, I found the rule feeling home. Friendly, helping and responsive staff, thank you! The breakfast is basic, but filling. The dinner at the restaurant is quite good taking into account the place is remote. Plenty of parking! I would have stayed here longer than one day to feel the nature. Should come...

We were a group of 6 and Stayed in 3 Container rooms. Supersmall, no place to hang your clothes, no chair, but Clean and warm, bunk Beds very narrow. The outside of the buildings are in bad condition, looks like nothing has been done forever and overall shabby looking. Very expensive (8000 iskr for the bed, pr person, 2000 for bedding and a towel, 2000 for breakfast , 3650 for shephards pie that was child size portion with approximately 7 bites of meat. Ordered apple pie for desert to avoid hunger and there were only 2 left so we all went to bed hungry. Breakfast was ok, little variety though, mostly bread. but only serves from|8oclock so there was a long line at the door waiting as most travellers get up early. Clean and touch up the houses, open earlyer and give people a bit more to eat and this...

Note: review is about the equally-relevant camping, by someone who visited multiple times now. The area and location are absolutely stunning, raw and gorgeous, with very good hot pool and surroundings to relax or hike (highly recommend Thjófafell, it's a 10km one way hike which brings you close to the glacier), as seen in my drone shot too. Facility-wise it is quite poor, they provide toilets/showers which are mid-to-bad condition considering other, including highland bases. Water and sink access outside, no indoor kitchen or common room. Access via 35 and then brief detour okay with 4x4, road35 is better every year. Price per person: 2600ISK

Good stop on our bicycle tour mid way in the middle of wilderness. Nice hot springs. However the hot springs don’t have a shower nearby and you have to run to the main bathroom across the parking lot. Was quite chilly 🥶 in the high winds! No main area to cook your food, only the restaurant seating area is indoors. So we had to brave the wind and cook outside on the deck. But it was beautiful with the beautiful sunset as your kitchen.
