Pros:|- for dinner, the restaurant had by far the BEST lamb chops I’ve had in Iceland over two weeks (we had lamb five times)|- coffee and tea takeaway available in the common area, with many books and some games to keep you entertained|- reception staff same as restaurant but were very pleasant and able to juggle nicely with diners|- room was reasonably kept well and one of our more affordable stays||Cons:|- property is not as upkept as others from an aesthetics/cosmetic standpoint|- room is very small and limited space (only suggest for overnight stay)|- some struggles with opening/closing main door to lodging area||Summary: Nothing to rave about with respect to the accommodation at North West Guesthouse. There are few choices but it’s a simple and no-frills place as you travel around the island. However, I would stay at this property over and over again for the lamb chops. Two of us ate them and we both agreed they were the best in our life (and best in Iceland). Breakfast is a separate fee, but on the flipside it does offer flexibility (we opted in for breakfast) and the cost of stay itself was one of the most reasonable during our travels. Read moreClean for its 2 star category but the rooms felt hostel/motel-like. Small bathroom with no shower barrier (has curtain) so the rest of the bathroom gets wet. Very sulfuric smell with the hot water (but that’s not their fault)
On the main ring road and we had a bedroom that faced the street, so somewhat noisy but didn’t affect sleep. Overall, clean with no issues but a room you felt happy you’re only staying 1 night in. Great location coming back from West Fjords after a long drive.
Restaurant is one of the least we’ve liked- fries & burger (~3900 krona) that came out kinda cold. Eat your own food or get it before you come, if possible. The burgers we had in Stykkishólmur were much better
Buttttttt, the room was pretty cheap with breakfast $150 or so. Breakfast was also not very good though 😆 continental with limited options. But for price point, hard to find private bathroom with breakfast- so great value in that sense but we would have opted to pay a bit more if there were options...
Read moreI stopped here with some friends for dinner on our way to Akureyri who had warned me that the place doesn't look very inviting from the outside but said that the restaurant offered good quality hearty Icelandic home-style food ... that I can now confirm. 😊
There are daily offers for main course dishes from Monday to Thursday but the menu also includes some other choices like burgers that looked good and a really tasty and well prepared chicken salad that I ordered and was delicious. My friends ordered the fried fish that was also good ... served with Cole slaw. 😋👍
The restaurant reminded me a bit of an Anetican dinner... with a few Icelandic twists that included a cirnet with warm woollen socks & mittens ... as well as another station with Icelandic chocolates & coffee to go. 👍😍👍
The service was very friendly but a bit slow .... as the restaurant was really busy!
When we left we enjoyed a beautiful Icelandic summer sunset ... very close to the restaurant. ...
