Without doubt the best affordable hotel we’ve been to in Iceland! Amazing services, breakfast and location. There is a free private hot tube! Free high-quality coffee machine. Free northern lights wake up service. Free billiard table. The breakfast was absolutely number one out of all our Icelandic stays – huge variety of tasty and fresh meals! Hotel is located right next to the lake MĂœvatn, that makes it a great starting place for the exploration of entire MĂœvatn area. We had a beautiful room with big windows and a view right at the lake! Moreover, the staff was really friendly and sincerely tried to fulfil all our wishes and answer all our questions. We asked about one particular place in Husavik and a receptionist even offered us to call her friend in Husavik and ask her about that! Sel hotel was one of the highlights of our winter stays in Iceland. It definitely exceeded our expectations and we would surely come back again!

Unpretentious, excellent value, family-owned and perfectly located to visit MĂœvatn lake, Dimmuborgir, GrjĂłtagjĂĄ, Hverir & MĂœvatn Nature Baths. Visiting MĂœvatn for two days was a highlight of our trip to Iceland - with its uncrowded and wild landscape. This hotel is right across from the lagoon (lovely walking paths), adjacent to two working farms (which appeals to us) and has a gas pump in the parking lot (very handy in this remote area). Hotel rooms are clean and simple, with quality linens. Hot tub & sauna are functional (just ask the staff to turn on the sauna). Restaurant is great, especially the sourdough crust pizzas and the beer (we ate both dinners here). The breakfast buffet is extensive with range of both hot and cold items. Staff is super friendly & knowledgeable. 1960s lobby vibe: lots of taxidermy birds of MĂœvatn, pool table, dart boards (actually super fun). And just ignore the curious green carpet in the hallways.

We had an absolutely amazing stay here! We got a great value for our money - they had a really cool outdoor hot tub and sauna, and their breakfast was seriously impressive. I really appreciated the 24/7 espresso/latte machine in the lobby. The best feature of this hotel was the Northern Lights wake up call. You could put your room number down on a list for them to call you if someone sees it. They called us around midnight, and knowing that someone had laid eyes on it made us stay up and wait longer than we would have if our app had alerted us! We did end up seeing it, and the huge windows from our room meant we did so warm and comfortable rather than having to go outside :) All of the staff was so friendly, and we really cannot recommend this place highly enough.

This hotel is well located near the southern end of Lake Myvatn. It is directly across from the SkĂștustaðagĂgar craters attraction, and a short drive from several other things on the eastern shore of the lake, including the Lava Field Dimmuborgir and the Hverfjall crater. It takes longer to get to the hot springs and geothermic attractions to the northeast, but all of those places are do-able within a single day of sightseeing.||The rooms in this hotel are a good size. The furniture and fixtures are a touch worn and dated, but fine. The breakfast area is large and has a nice panoramic view out to the lake. Breakfast selection is diverse and plentiful. We enjoyed the options, some accommodating North American visitors, while others were distinctly European.||The biggest drawback here has nothing to do with the hotel, but the environment. As several others have noted, the midges are everywhere outside, especially during the summer months when we were there. Many guests had netting or other face shielding to avoid the worst aspects of that onslaught, but we didn't know to do that, so we just moved quickly from hotel to car. There was one place where the midges tried to get into the hotel and swarmed a small crack in the window. Super gross!||Again, nothing against the hotel. The staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. The location is good and so is the food. But watch out for the bugs! Myvatn means "midge lake" and you'll never forget that once...

No doubt it is one of the most affordable hotels in this Lake Myvatn area, because it offers family room which accommodates up to 4 adults. I travelled with my spouse and 2 teenagers, so family room is a right choice of room for us. I stayed in room 212 for a night. The room was huge with 4 single beds and a small living room.||Location of the hotel is good, opposite the attraction SkĂștustaðagĂgar in Lake Myvatn. However, this area is full of midges flying around in the outdoor area and it could be very irritating walking outdoor. I saw some people came prepared with insect netting covering their head while walking outdoor, this is a tip for others. ||The room and beds were clean, but the furniture was aged and dated, some refurbishment would be good. No refrigerator provided in the room. The water temperature in the bathroom was not hot, no communication in the room/bathroom provided that guest must keep the water running for some time in order to enable slightly warmer water to be supplied through their water pump system. We have to call reception to complain before we were told to use the above method to obtain hot water for shower. ||The restaurant here served reasonably good selection of food. We had our dinner here given there wasn't many restaurant choices around this area. Breakfast was decent but no puff pastries (like...
