This place was so much nicer than most of the hotels that I have stayed in while traveling through the NE states and is definitely recommended for those who are visiting Ziro. ||||Firstly, the downside which is that it is a significant distance from the main town, Hapoli, on a pretty awful road. This should be no issue for those with their own transport but gets more difficult if, like me, you arrive on public transport. However, the owners responded immediately to a telephone call and collected me from the town and also dropped me back at the end of my stay.||||The room I had was a single and quite small but contained all that I needed including a functioning geyser, electric heater and a mosquito net (although in Dec it was too cold to need it). There was lots of warm bedding - the owners brought me extra in case what was on the bed was not enough.||||The tariff is very reasonable and includes breakfast and dinner which are taken in a dining room especially for guests. There is also a room next to it that has a wood burning stove where the family watches TV and spends time together. They were happy for me to join them by the warm fire. The food was abundant and very good. It included an Apitani speciality of chicken and egg cooked inside bamboo and lots of lovely fresh vegetables from their enormous organic garden.||||I was on my own and without transport which would have made sightseeing difficult but the family rented me their small car and their oldest son for a day to tour the Apitani villages, museum and the local market. The charge was very reasonable and much less than it would have cost through an agency and the son spoke good English. The whole family is very welcoming and nice to be around.||||The Abasa Homestay was a lovely change from basic hotels and restaurants and is highly...
Read moreIf you are interested in being with a real Apatani family, albeit with some comforts thrown in, this place is for you. It is a 15-minute, quite a bumpy drive from the main town. So, if you are not having your own vehicle (we didn't), it is a tad difficult to get there. You might need to contact the hosts for help.||||The homestay, since it is outside the town, is set in a pristine location. The rooms are adequately furnished. The hosts have their own farm and would be happy to let you see it. My son really loved it there, since he is quite an outdoorsy person. However, there was no TV in our room and we preferred it that way.||||The food is typical Apatani fare and though non-vegetarian food is awesome, they have a lot of vegan options too. There are few villages near the homestay and you can also rent a vehicle and visit some of the places of interest.||||The only con was that the restroom was not maintained well and this is a point the hosts need to take note.||||The cost is INR 1500/person/day with breakfast and dinner included.||||This is a place where you can sit, relax, read a book on their bright porch, go for long walks in the lovely weather, or play with the resident friendly canine, Cheeku. ||||If you want a cozy place to relax and rejuvenate,...
Read moreDuring a recent tour of Arunachal Pradesh, my traveling companion and I spent 3 nights at Abasa Homestay in Siiro Village near Ziro. It was a truly unique experience.||From the moment we arrived we were treated as much as family as we were guests.||I had a room on the second floor that opened on to a balcony. Room was a bit small but clean and comfortable. A space-heater was provided as well as battery-operated lanterns as nights can be quite cold and electricity outages are not unusual.||One of the most interesting aspects of the stay was the main room/dining room where life centers around the wood fire pit. We would take our dinners there in the evening and were always entertained by chatting with the family who run the homestay.||Also, we were interested in visiting Apatani villages in the area as it was the time of the Myoko Festival. The family arranged a guide for us by the name of Mudang Apo. He was an absolute blessing to show us the 7 Apatani villages in the area and took us in to several homes to take part in the festival.||This was an all-around delightful stay and I can highly recommend this homestay for anyone traveling in the area who would like an experience so unlike staying in a...
