Vijay Intercontinental — Hotel in Kanpur

Very bad experience Recently I had a family celebration at Vijay Intercontinental hotel. It could be my fault trusting hotel managers and their words despite had a bad review from few of my friends. I had my booking done with Prabal Srivastava, Amit Yadav and Rahul from the hotel and in a way all have disrespected what I was looking for. I guess have paid a decent amount for a small gathering but highly disappointed. Here below a few things in pointers for others to understand the level of commitment they show and the service, this might also help the future customers to discuss every tiny things before finalizing the deal with this hotel. They only called me for payments not to check the requirements' for the event or supervise the arrangements. It was my first experience with a banquet event perhaps that is the reason failed badly to deliver what my peopled wanted from me.

1 - Food menu - Check for what is included in main course and what is in snacks. You should always carry a copy of food menu during the event and check every serving thoroughly. Also check what they would mention in the menu at the time of booking. In my case Amit Yadav missed a few food items in the final menu. Coffee was not served to the guests and when asked they said it was not included in the menu. Soft drinks were not there that I ha d to buy. At a point the waiter denied to serve it to the guests. Live counter food should have been served with snacks but it was served with buffet. Food was good but the kind of mess they created around the menu was not acceptable. Also like other hotels no one called for food testing. I guess not being the only one with this observation.

2 - Lighting - The hotel charges separately for the lighting but in fact nothing you will find that you could say lighting. Usual light in the open area that is not sufficient. No sufficient light in the hall as well when you ask for they would say you need to pay extra. I made a mistake by not visiting any ongoing event at hotel to check about the venue and arrangements.

3 - Facilities - Lifts were not working intermittently. Only two small lifts were installed for the entire house with least capacity. I don't understand how a five star rating has been given to the hotel. There was another wedding held at the same time and I could see elderly members were waiting for the lift for a long time. There was a crowd waiting for lifts. On top of that no one bothered about assisting the guest and solving the issue. After 11 PM one of the lift was stopped by the hotel. Horrible experience.

4 - Rooms - AC in the room was not working. The AC controller was not working properly and dropping the AC control frequently. When the AC started it was not cooling enough and making the room suffocative. I had to keep the door opened all the time. There was a bad odor in the room all the time had to ask an assistant for some room freshener.

5 - Banquet - I had my booking in the pool side banquet. The hall was okay but very badly managed. Table clothes were dirty and torn. The couch was dirty. No proper lighting for your photographs.

6 - Staff - Catering manager (I don't remember his name) was okay but Amit Yadav and Prabal Srivastava were not they just closed the deal. I guess Amit only judges your by the monitory status you have the rich you are the good you get, obviously this is their business. The waiters were good but I observed issues with their behavior it may be due to hotel management, understand they all are managed by the the superior people.

7 - Location and Ambience - Location is good and the ambience too is, but not properly managed specially banquets.

8 - Parking - Parking has been a great issue with the hotel. All the vehicles are pared on the road side and you have to struggle to find a place for your car.

9 - Security Guards - Very misbehaving and rude. All my guests complaint about the guards that they did not assist them on their parking issues and talked rude.
