I made the booking at The Blue Mountains Estate after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and Google and I must say we weren't disappointed. My family and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The hosts and support staff are all very warm and friendly and took good care of us. Definitely one of the best homestay experiences I have had over the last two decades of staying in numerous homestays across the country. There are a couple of rooms located in a building outside of the main house, within the same premises and we stayed in one of them. The rooms themselves were smallish but comfortable. In any case we chose to spend most of our time outside, in the nicely done sit out area and in the well maintained garden. There is an open area for kids to run around and play. The hosts have a couple of pet German Shepherd dogs, but they were always secured and kept away from the guests. The house and rooms are located in a coffee estate. There are options to go on walks in the nearby area and our caretaker took us around to their other heritage property through paddy fields.
The location is one of the drawbacks. While the locality is indeed a nice and calm place in the Coorg hills, it is not close to any of the major attractions in Coorg. One needs to drive upwards of 15 kms to visit any of the Coorg attractions. For those who do not have their own vehicle, it could be a challenge. However it would be a great option for those who are looking to just stay in one place and relax. The food served was excellent throughout and the spread for lunch and dinner were surprisingly big for a homestay. Overall a great experience at a nice place. Thanks to the hosts for making our...
Read moreOur stay at the Blue Mountain Estate Stay was extremely satisfying, to say the least. Mrs Kariappa, or Meena Aunty :) is an excellent host - from personally cooking delicious meals for all her guests to ensuring we enjoy freshly brewed coffee from the estate every morning and evening, she took care of all our needs. The rooms are cosy and extremely peaceful. In the estate, we experienced what true silence is, while waking up to the sound of birds every morning. One can experience dew drops actually falling all around the rich variety of trees and plants that are growing around the estate, and can even wander off through the narrow roads around the estate for a breathtaking morning walk. Meena Aunty has grown such a gorgeous variety of flowers in her home - every nook and corner has a surprise in terms of visual beauty. The food was also sumptuous - homely, comforting, and of course, delicious, and there was always a lot of variety to choose from - fresh dosas, omellets, coconut milk based vegetable stews, dals, idlis were my favourite (two of us were vegetarians and not from south India so we don't know the names of most local dishes but they were all lovely!). Ashwin, the caretaker and Rohit, the cook were also very hospitable and efficient. To top off this experience, Mr. Kariappa took us for a tour of his beautiful heritage home downhill. He shared stories about his ancestors and how growing up in a traditional Coorgi home was like. We felt like daydreaming children getting lost in a beautiful mountain wonderland. Truly grateful for this experience! If you love nature, and are looking for a homely stay, then Blue Mountain Estate Stay will be an excellent...
Read moreI was in Blue mountain for two days .. It was one of the best home stays thatI had ever stayed.
The hospitality is matchless. Meena aunty and her husband can make you feel at home within minutes of meeting them. I loved to listen to stories of their ancestors. I learned a lot about Kodagu culture from them.
Homestay is at Napkolu which is 45 minutes drive from Madikeri and set amidst coffee estate. Meena aunty has decorated the homestay beautifully with cute artifacts. I envy her collection of plants... flowering , non flowering and orchids.
I had opted for a standard room since I was travelling solo. The room was small but very clean and cozy.
Food that she prepares is so yummy She served a lovely spread for dinner and on my request she prepared some Kodagu specials too... Except the deserts I adored everything.
House keeping requires a special mention. They are really friendly .
The only downside is you need a vehicle to reach the place as it is situated a bit far from Madikeri. But Iguthappa temple and Nalkanad palace is close by and its easier to reach Talacaveri and Bhagmandala too
Aunty... I will be coming back soon with my family. Thanks a ton...
