We were two of us who stayed for two nights at Bovera Orchards. A lot of negatives, a few positives, read on....||13th of March 2024. It was scorching Hot. Not a leaf moved till about 7pm. even then, it was so still. The room has NO A/c. It was so warm, The fan hardly moves. Thank god the Manager - Vaishnav assured us he will get a Pedestal Fan, which he bought new, and that made the stay manageable. The room has dull lights which made it gloomy. The Deluxe room with Balcony, which in the website says 450 sq ft, certainly is NOT unless the balcony and the toilet and the common area is added. No intercom in the room to call anyone, one has to walk down or call on Vaishnavs Mobile and if he is out, you are stuck. No Tea/coffee maker. No Chair in the room to sit, you have to sit in the Balcony and chase mosquitos or listen to insects. NO TV. The bathroom though spacious is stained in the front of the sink, and the mirror has something jutting out to keep your toileteries making it difficult to wash your face without messing up the floor. The floor has no antiskid, so watchout it becomes very slippery when wet. Worst of all, the mattress, like sleeping on wood - as hard as hard as can be. Worst of all, barring a few large trees, I could see NO orchards or Anthuriums or Orchids as stated in the website, No Coffee plantations in the property, though there are outside. Also, if you dont have your own vehicle, its difficult to reach and the closest town of Virajpet is quite a distance away, and Madikeri is 36 kms away. Its in the middle of No where, the closest shops are around 3km away !||We wanted ICE on the first day with our drinks but told some other guest finished it. However we did get the next day. They did a bonfire. The biggest saving grace are the staff - Vaishnav, Jayanto, the cook Sunil and the server who were always at hand and obliging and helpful, to get us a mosquito coil, to fix the balcony light, to put on the generator when the power went off, etc. The food is average. I didnt like it when theny cut fruits with the same knife they cut Onions, and the fruits were smelling of onions. Food choice is Limited.||The property has a tiny pond a distance away in which they do kayaking which we didnt use, shuttle, a small childrens play area. Our biggest disappointment was the weather, so, so hot in March I wonder what it would be in Apirl or May and without an A/c, it is very very difficult to stay in the room. And mind you, its not comfortable sitting in the Balcony either.||All in all, considering its in the middle of No where, I certainly wont go back again. A few have praised the place, its ok if you are a couple and want to be alone in your room, otherwise with the heat and limited resources, there is nothing much one can do. Hats of to the staff. They are the saving grace ! However when we left, after making the payment, no one came to see us off or check the rooms, we just took out bags and...
Read moreThis is the first time we have been deceived by the reviews. After considering it as worthy by reading the reviews; we went there on two weekdays and were probably the only guests.
Infrastructure/ room quality The rooms were reeking wet smell and the toilet was low class. Didn’t find a basic soap holder near the shower. Found dead insects and a living frog inside the bathroom. The furniture were too outdated and creaky. The window curtain rod was balanced by one support and fell down couple of times. We were given free activities in the package, but there were barely any. Indoor games didnt have anything like carrom, foosball, TT etc. Cricket and football ground were there but not useable because of wet conditions. The kayaking was one worth activity, but the path to the lake was uncleared and scary.
Maintenance/ quality of care Our experience with the maintenance and quality of care was much below expectations. We had a hard time reaching out to people. Nobody enquired about our requirements and well-being until we reached out to them couple of times. We stayed for two days, but our room was not serviced even once. We are early risers and wanted early tea/ coffee, but nobody was awake till 7.30AM. We tried reaching out to the manager but were unattended. The breakfast was not good either. Usually there are standard items like bread/jam butter, idli sambar and then some other items. First day there was akki rotti, maida poori with chutney sagu and watermelon . Second day there was akki rotti with akki idli or puttu something and watermelon. The akki rotis were hard and the puttu was not tasting good.
Probably the few positives that I can speak about are the little dachshund puppy that our kids loved playing with and the lush green ambience. The homestay needs to be completely revamped with better infrastructure, better maintenance and better personnel. Only then it may be worth spending on amount on stay....
