Kandu valley homestay has a beautiful aesthetically appealing structure, big campus, huge rooms, almost 360 degree mountain and coffee plantation views, ample parking space, few games to play, delicious homemade organic food and most importantly - very warm and welcoming hosts who make you feel a part of their family. It is slightly over an hour away from Madikere if you plan for tourism, but the location is so nice that you need not go out and can instead relax in and around the homestay itself for a rejuvenating vacation. While this sums up the stay in short, I hope my detailed review below will help you make the right decision wrt choosing this place for your next trip :)
Stay - This homestay is basically a bungalow built for rental purpose while the owner and his family reside in another bungalow steps away in the same campus - thus offering privacy yet the comfort of having the host stay nearby. We booked the entire place for our group of 11 people. It consists of 4 sparkling clean rooms- all of them were big and had nice view through the huge windows! The beds are very comfortable providing firm support to the back. Blankets and pillows are provided, and extra blankets were provided upon request. The bathrooms are spacious, color neutral and are fitted with good quality fittings and fixtures giving it a very clean look. (I was wary of the bathrooms in most homestays but this one gave the feel of a good 4-star hotel quality bathroom). Bath towels and soap was provided for all members. The foyer has sofa chairs where people can relax and soak in the views. The campus has a big garden segregated into 3-4 areas where people can relax or sit together and have a bonfire too. There is a swing as well :) With ample parking space, there is enough place to play games like cricket and the host is nice enough to provide Bat and ball. Carrom is also available for playing. The owner can also take you on a visit to his coffee plantation nearby and also arrange a trek for the trekking enthusiasts at a minimal additional cost. There are many fruit and flowering plants in the campus including a small farm from where vegetables are fetched for most of the cooking! For dog lovers, they have a 5-month old labrador named Zuba who is very playful and friendly .And incase you are scared of dogs, Zuba has a very spacious cage of his own where he can relax while you enjoy the homestay's outdoors :)
Food - This was the best part of our stay! The food is very fresh - sourced straight from the farm, turned into simple regional delicacies and served piping hot at the table. The owner Dinesh ji's wife and mother are amazing cooks and they cook the food themselves while Dinesh ji himself is around to help refill/ serve some specific items adding to that homely touch!! Based on our request they provided Chapatis for us in every dinner meal along with other items. The desserts were never overly sweet making it perfect for guilt-free indulgences ;) The best item we tasted was the rice vermicelli with sweet cardamom flavored coconut milk... it was absolutely out of this world and while our tummies were full already the heart just couldn't get enough of the taste :D The akki roti, lemon rice, various types of sambar, and the tasty tea and coffee are something we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay. Overall the food fares 5/5 and I highly recommend visiting this homestay even if solely for the food!
Experience & Service - The hosts are very welcoming & eager to help to make your stay more memorable. Dinesh ji was kind enough to provide us hot water and tea/coffee early in the morning daily, and also to provide us coffee once at late night around the bonfire. The rooms were cleaned daily upon request. Since there was a power cut on the first night when we went, Dinesh ji made sure to arrange for torches in every room for a smoother stay. Since the group loved their homemade pickles made from lime growing in their backyard, he even gifted a few fresh limes to us. Overall very satisfied with the experience and would love to...
