If you want a quiet, serene stay by the sea- stay here. The beach access is epic, yet it is at a safe distance from the water. The beach is almost private, fairly clean. We had opted for a sea facing cottage, the view from the balcony was amazing, though the day and the night.
They have quite a big campus that is tree filled, our pet and us had a wonderful time exploring the property. We missed seeing the kitchen garden and composting set-up... maybe next time.
The rooms, the loo is clean. There are taps / showers on the way back from the beach so you can wash off the sand before entering your room.
The staff is super friendly, prompt with help. We had spoken to Agnel, the property manager to figure out which room would be good for us...and his guidance was spot on and truly appreciated. Pradeep + 2 akkas whose name I forgot from the housekeeping team were super helpful as well.
They have a restaurant that is sea facing, they dont have room service- which makes sense...wouldn't you rather eat in the breezy restaurant looking at the sea waves?? Food is north Indian, simple, freshly made and homely. Their juices were fresh and without additives. The portions were generous. We had mosambi juice almost daily as well as tomato soup with each dinner...very satisfying. Their poori sabzi and scrambled eggs with toast for breakfast were good. Appreciate the serving staff and their cook for amazing meals served hot. They also take care of your meal preferences, pls do inform them in advance for less salt / spice, no ice etc. No alcohol is served in the restaurant. Pls do get high on sunsets and epic stars at night :D
We stayed for 3 nights. Arrived on Friday by 4pm. Enjoyed sunset plus playtime on the beach with our indie pup the first evening. Had long walks on the beach morning and evening on all days. Spent second day exploring the trees, nooks and crannies on the property...and hearing peacocks, several other birds. Day 2 evening explored Kumta market, hunting for idli. Further visited the Aghinashini view point, it is gorgeous but please park safely before taking in the sights...do not randomly halt on the road for safety of all. On the way to the view point there is a hilly patch which pets will love exploring. On day 3 morning went to Gokarna, visited a shack, food was good, music too loud. We were glad to be back to the quieter vibe at Om Bodhi by the evening. Do visit the Mirjan fort while you stay here. Pets not allowed in the fort.
Overall, can't wait to come back to Om Bodhi again. I wish them all the success wrt the retreat and luck with their community...
Read moreA Great Stay by the Beach, But Disappointing Service and Facilities
I recently stayed at a beachside hotel that promised a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. While the location was undoubtedly stunning—steps away from the sand and surf—my experience left much to be desired due to a lack of facilities and a concerning attitude from the staff.
Firstly, let’s talk about the positives. Waking up to the sound of waves crashing on the shore and enjoying breathtaking sunrises was genuinely magical. The beach access was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel, and it did not disappoint. The area was clean, and the views were simply spectacular. Unfortunately, the beauty of the location couldn’t compensate for the numerous drawbacks I encountered during my stay.
The facilities at the hotel were extremely limited. There was a restaurant on-site, with very limited options available. The food was subpar and lacked any attention to flavour or freshness.
What truly marred my experience, however, was the lack of responsiveness from the staff. While I understand that running a hotel can be demanding, the staff seemed more preoccupied with ensuring we had settled our bills than with attending to guest needs. Requests for assistance, whether it was about room cleanliness or inquiries about local attractions, were met with indifference. On several occasions, I felt invisible as the staff chatted among themselves, seemingly oblivious to the guests around them.
This overall lack of care extended to their customer service. I reached out about a minor issue in our room, expecting a prompt resolution, but I was left waiting far too long, eventually giving up and handling it myself. It’s frustrating when a hotel charges a premium rate but falls short in service and guest satisfaction.
In conclusion, while the scenic beach location was a highlight of my stay, the overall experience was overshadowed by inadequate facilities and a staff that seemed to prioritize payment over hospitality. I left feeling that I did not receive value for my money and would not return to this hotel in the future. If you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway, I highly recommend seeking out other options that offer better amenities and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s clear that this hotel has some work to do before it can truly be...
Read moreAfter reading the mixed reviews for the place online, I’d like to put my views on the beach resort OMBodhi Retreat. As a frequent traveler, I always want such places which are peaceful, away from crowd and happening, well OmBodhi has it all. When I did my pretrip research i found that this place is just a little south of gokarna, having a beautiful ambience, where one can just unwind and relax with all th amenities right, Ambience right I went ahead and booked the Superior Beach facing cottage ( pictures online dont justify the wonderful view ) and must say I did not regret.
The resort is spread in 10 acres and has a wonderfull spread of lush greens all around. Cottages, pathways admist the trees are no less a great experience. And the beach!! Oh the view is so beautiful with the sounds of the sea all around the resort, just wonderful.
The cottages are great, well designed and very well maintained, infact the architecture is very apt for the location. Good sit out spaces in all the cottages to have a great view. Well my cottage also had a beach view in the shower, isnt that crazy!
Staff is very helpful, very friendly and are always there to cater to your needs. Infact me travelling solo, I still felt very comfortable and no hurdles in my trip as the management made sure to take care of everything to the best of what they could.
Food? Oh food was great, i enjoyed having all my meals at the inhouse restaurant itself, did not have to go out.
And well i can go on and on but i’d like to sum it up, It is a great place and a must visit, donot judge this place by the proximity from gokarna point of view( which I feel is not much as there are options to easily reach gokarna ), and if you really need something in gokarna then do the right research and find a right place for you! Well which is pointless, I mean why associating places with locations, i suggest go to Ombodhi, you wont regret.
Thats the reason this place deserves a 5 star, Will surely keep it in the to go lost whenever i...
