We stayed at Royal Woods during the third week of May, 2022. We had made advance booking during March itself with Mr. Ashrith. Mr. Ashrith was very supportive to us right from the day we talked to him for an enquiry, till the point we departed from Mysore.
We were three families with kids, Royal Woods arranged for a traveler van from Mysore railway station to their resort, and we used the same traveler van for our entire coorg trip.
The climate at Coorg was cool and pleasant during our visit. The route to Royal Woods from the Mysore-Madikeri main road was adventurous and scenic, though bumpy. Mr. Antony in his Maruti omni guided us from Cariappa circle. When we reached Royal Woods, it was drizzling and cool. Just beside the resort, there is a slope with coffee plants and trees. The views downhill from the resort were great though we did not get a chance to go down the hill. The resort's location is far from the hustle bustle of the main city, so the environment was very calm and clean. Since the resort is part of a coffee estate, it was misty and green outside especially in early mornings. We had an early morning walk one day from the estate along the mud road and the walk was refreshing.
Right from the point of reaching the resort till our departure, Mr. Antony and his entire family were very supportive, helpful and provided us very good tips for our travel. The rooms were well-maintained and clean. The bathrooms were very spacious. 24x7 hot water facility was available. Hot water for drinking was provided everyday.
The food menu was very customizable, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Mr. Antony and Mrs. Lidiya stressed on getting our food preferences and ensured that we had a healthy and delicious food everyday. Regular menu included idli, chappathi, poori, dosa, upma, rice, sambar, rasam, veg. curry, egg burji, egg curry, chicken curry. Some of the special dishes included kadamputtu (rice balls), mango curry, fresh river pomphret fish fry and pandi curry. Morning and evening coffee and tea were provided based on our preference. Hot milk for kids was also provided whenever we requested. Bathrooms were cleaned on daily basis and beds were made based on our requests. We discussed our itinerary plan with Mr. Antony and he gave us valuable tips. After a long day's travel, whenever we reached the resort, the fresh tea and coffee provided made us energetic. Breakfast and dinner were provided on time. We felt as if we were staying at our relatives' place or our own home.
Thanks to Mr. Antony, Mrs. Lidiya, and their entire family for taking great care of us and we will definitely recommend anyone (especially families with kids) to stay at...
Read moreMy stay at Royal Woods Homestay in Madikeri was deeply disappointing and filled with problems. As a traveler visiting from the USA, I was shocked to find that both the safety of belongings and the management’s attitude were absolutely TERRIBLE.||||During my three-night stay, valuable items—including ₹15,000 worth of money and my Apple AirPods—went missing from my luggage. The bag was securely packed and untouched during our stay, leaving no room for error. The theft was immediately reported to both the property management and the taxi service arranged by Royal Woods, but the response was dismissive and unhelpful.||||After two days of follow-up, the AirPods were “discovered” under highly suspicious circumstances. However, the missing cash was never accounted for, and I was left feeling cheated. Adding to my frustration, the property owner, Ashrith, refused to ship the AirPods to me after I had left Madikeri, claiming I needed to retrieve them in person with identification. Despite my repeated requests to hand them over to a friend or even directly to the police, these options were rejected until I was forced to file a police complaint.||||To make matters worse, the owner’s behavior throughout this ordeal was shockingly rude and dismissive. Instead of offering solutions or apologizing, he consistently shifted blame and showed zero concern for the inconvenience caused. This attitude is unacceptable for any hospitality business, especially one that claims to cater to travelers from around the world.||||Other Concerns:||||Hygiene standards were subpar, and I developed a rash during my stay, likely due to bedbugs.||||Privacy is non-existent, as the rooms directly face a busy parking area.||||Update: Since leaving my original review, the owner has made efforts to intimidate and pressure me into removing it. They even withheld my AirPods until I filed an official police report. This type of behavior is unacceptable and raises serious doubts about the trustworthiness of this establishment.||||I would not recommend Royal Woods Homestay to anyone. For your peace of mind and safety, choose a...

I recently stayed at Royal Woods Homestay in Madikeri as a traveler from the USA, and my experience was nothing short of disastrous. Security at this property is a major concern. During our three-night stay, money and my Apple AirPods (valued together at around ₹15,000) went missing from our bag. These items were undoubtedly in our possession when we checked in.
When we reported the theft to the property and the taxi service they had arranged, we received a call two days later saying the AirPods had been "found." This was suspicious, as the bag containing the missing items was never opened during our stay, making it clear that this was a case of theft.
What made matters worse was the owner's lack of responsibility and rude behavior. When I requested that the AirPods be shipped to me since I had already traveled far from Madikeri, the owner, Ashrith, flat-out refused, insisting I return to collect them personally. Throughout our conversations, he was unhelpful, dismissive, and even blamed me for the situation. The missing money and airpods has still not been returned, and no effort has been made to resolve the issue.
This experience has left me deeply disappointed and questioning the trustworthiness of this property. For the sake of your safety and peace of mind, avoid staying at Royal Woods Homestay.
Other Issues:
I developed a rash on my leg after the stay, possibly caused by bedbugs.
The rooms open directly onto a parking area, offering little to no privacy.
Edit: Ashrith, the owner, has tried to file a complaint with the police and attempted to blackmail me to remove this google review. They are not willing to give back the airpods unless I delete this review....
